The Real Housewives shows let the cameras in on a lot of what goes on in the cast’s lives. But, a new interview with RHOC’s Emily Simpson on Kayla Cardone’s Pain to Power podcast reveals some more details about her life. During RHOC season 18, fans feel they’re seeing a new side to Emily as she enters her sixth year on the show. She and Kayla talk about the series as well as some painful moments from her past.
Emily Simpson joined The Real Housewives of Orange County along with Gina Kirschenheiter six years ago. The ladies are now core members of the group, alongside Tamra Judge, Heather Dubrow, Shannon Storms Beador, and co. During Emily’s latest interview, she explains how her husband, Shane Simpson, wasn’t initially keen on appearing on the series, and how their marriage went through a rocky patch when cameras first started rolling.
RHOC’s Emily suffered a heartbreaking loss
Emily, 48, is a busy mom of three kids who RHOC fans will know hails from Ohio and previously had a career as an attorney.
She and her family have been appearing on the Bravo show since 2018, and Emily is often presenting a positive and can-do attitude during RHOC.
But, her life hasn’t always been easy and she details some of her toughest times during her chat with Kayla this fall.
The reality TV star expresses how fans would’ve seen her and her husband going through some hard times during her first two seasons on RHOC.
But, she and Shane had also been through even tougher times in the past.
Speaking of her journey to motherhood, Emily said she had difficulty in “carrying” children: “I had multiple miscarriages prior to trying in vitro myself. It was always early on, it was like five weeks pregnant, seven weeks pregnant, eight weeks pregnant and then I did in vitro myself…”
She continues: “I was actually pregnant with twins, a boy, and a girl, up until about four months and then I lost them. So, I had every diagnostic test you could imagine… we could never pin point exactly what the issue was.
“That was also very tough on our marriage, that took about five years before Annabelle was finally born. That’s tough on a marriage, to go through that,” she adds.
Now, Shane and Emily are parents to Annabelle, Luke, and Keller. Emily’s sister was the surrogate for all three of their kids.
Emily Simpson was married before Shane
Explaining how she “ended up in California, Emily said: “I was actually married before Shane. I don’t know if a lot of people know that because I don’t talk about it very often.”
She adds: “I was married and he was a marine and so he was in the military…”
Emily was attending law school in Ohio before moving state with her ex-husband.
She said: “I followed him and then I finished law school in San Diego. We got divorced at some point, that was easy. It was very amicable. They would’ve never hired me as a Housewife then. We just went our separate ways.”
While working her first job after passing the bar exam, Emily met Shane.
At the time, he was married and they were “really good work friends.”
Casting her mind back around 18 years, Emily recalled Shane getting divorced and later asking her to go to Vegas with him.
She says the two got married “so fast,” adding: “I think he asked me over Google Chat. It was not romantic or exciting. It was very transactional.”
