‘It didn’t feel random’: Influencer recalls moment she woke to masked man at the end of her bed

An influencer has recalled the terrifying moment she woke to find a masked man at the end of her bed. Dubai-based Mira Dorenbosch had been on holiday with her husband, when she awoke to the horror while in Bali.

Mira has since shared all in a series of Instagram posts, and said the ordeal felt targeted, as she issued a warning to other people travelling to the area.

The influencer described how she and her husband were woken up in the early hours of the morning, and at first thought a dog was at the end of their bed. However, it soon became clear it was a man, who made a very specific request. Mira said that “out of reflex” her husband “kicked towards” what he thought was the dog.

She went on:“Seconds later, he realised it was a man. A man dressed completely in black, wearing a balaclava, was standing inside our bedroom right next to our bed when we were sleeping. I woke up in the middle of all this.”

Mira said the man had been specifically looking for a Rolex, which made her think the incident was targeted. She believes the person had knowledge of the valuables she and her husband owned, and where they were staying. She said the man “threatened us” and “repeatedly demanded” they hand over the watch. She shared a theory someone may have “passed information on” about them.

“Eventually he took my husband’s Hermés bag and escaped by climbing over the wall of our villa,” she shared in the post. “What makes this even scarier is that he seemed to be looking specifically for the Rolex. It didn’t feel random.”

She added that she still hasn’t recovered from the ordeal, and said finding a masked stranger at the end of her bed is “something I can’t fully process”.

Warning others, she said: “Please be careful in Bali. You always think something like this happens to someone else… until you wake up and there’s literally a masked man standing next to your bed.”
