Who that man living inside LA billboard was, how it worked and the wild amount he got paid
Where do I sign up?
Social media has been taken over by a man living inside a billboard on Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard as part of Netflix’s latest publicity stunt, but who is he? Here are all the details you’ve been wondering about, including how long he was living there and how much he got paid.
It was all a marketing stunt set up by Netflix to advertise their new thriller film The Last House, which is about a family of four who are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out.
“He’ll attempt to maintain a sense of normalcy over extended periods of time while ‘stuck’ in his elevated, enclosed set,” Netflix told The Hollywood Reporter. “Communicating with commuters and passersby below via whiteboard as an eerie nod to the family’s own isolation in the film.”
The 30-foot billboard looked like a house, with a fake front door and living room, where the actor was living for three days. The stunt is over now, but videos are still going viral on TikTok and Twitter, and people have questions. Most importantly, did he have a toilet up there?!

Who that man living inside the LA billboard was
The man living inside the billboard was Nathan Shoop, a freelance actor, producer and writer based in LA who was hired by Netflix for the marketing stunt. He worked as a producer on the latest Jackass movie, Jackass: Best and Last.
“My journey began in Los Angeles, where my work as an actor sparked a lifelong passion for being involved in onset productions and collaborating with creative individuals. This passion has led me to specialise in creative production, where I collaborate with talented people pushing the boundaries of storytelling in innovative ways,” his LinkedIn says.
“I am driven by the process of bringing ideas to life-from inception to reality-and enjoy the challenge of streamlining production and creating memorable experiences. Whether it’s managing logistics or fostering an environment of fun and teamwork, I’m dedicated to delivering results that break new ground and leave a lasting impact.”

Apparently he had air con, and regular scheduled breaks
Shoop went into the billboard on Thursday, 6th August, and stayed in there for three days until Saturday, 8th August, across the film’s release. Netflix told the New York Times the room was 3-foot-deep by 25-foot-wide and fully air-conditioned. There was no toilet in there, but the actor did leave for regular breaks.
Netflix confirmed he got plenty of breaks to eat, sleep and use the toilet, most of which occurred “outside of the billboard”. Behind-the-scenes footage shows there was a whole production crew behind the billboard with trailers and lifts, so he did come down and wasn’t actually in there for three days straight.
Apparently, they had an illusion set up so that when he did go down to the trailer for a break, it looked like he was still in there to the public.
@hiddengemslosangeles This is one of those “there’s no way that’s real” moments in Los Angeles… except it is. 😂🏠 Netflix literally put a real human inside a billboard on Sunset Boulevard to promote The Last House. Because apparently a normal movie poster just wasn’t dramatic enough. 😭 The billboard was transformed into a furnished house, with a live performer actually hanging out inside while people on Sunset stopped, stared, filmed, asked questions… and probably reconsidered LA rent prices. 😂 The activation brings the idea behind Netflix’s The Last House into the real world and seeing an actual person living above Sunset Boulevard might be one of the craziest movie promotions we’ve seen in LA. And yes… we went to investigate. 👀😂 📍 Sunset Boulevard, Hollywood, Los Angeles 📅 August 6–8, 2026 🏠 Real performer inside the billboard 🎬 The Last House 📺 Now streaming on Netflix If you’re driving down Sunset Boulevard today… LOOK UP. 👀🏠 @Netflix #TheLastHouse #Netflix #NetflixLA
This is how much he got paid for the Netflix stunt
It must have been mind-numbingly boring being up there alone, but Shoop reportedly got paid a whopping $75,000 for the three-day stunt. Netflix hasn’t confirmed this figure, but it suddenly seems very worth it. Where do I sign up for the next one?
