Wait, who the hell was inside that Labubu costume at the Emmys?!

It’s an interesting look

Every awards season brings a few shockers, but this year’s 2025 Emmy Awards may have already delivered the red carpet moment of the decade. Among the couture gowns and sleek tuxedos walked… a life-sized Labubu.

Yes, the mischievous little monster toy that went viral has now made its way to Hollywood, courtesy of a Drag Race queen.

The mystery was quickly solved when fans realised the Labubu was none other than Joella – ‘and don’t forget the Ella!’ The 25-year-old drag queen, who competed on season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race and finished in 13th place, fully committed to the transformation.

The outfit consisted of a fluffy faux-fur Labubu bodysuit, complete with the character’s oversized ears tucked under a straw hat. And Joella took it one step further: she dressed her Labubu in a traditional Chinese dress with matching footwear and a handbag shaped like a takeout box dangling from a gold chain.

Of course, Joella’s face was the only part of her not covered in fur, so in typical drag queen stye, she wore bold makeup with the classic exaggerated doll-like eyes and a wide Labubu smile.

Fellow Drag Race queen Jewels Sparkles shared a behind-the-scenes clip, where Joella grinned at the camera and declared herself: “Hi! It’s the Slaysian Labubu.”

The performance was perfectly timed too, as Drag Race itself was up for two awards this year, including Outstanding Reality Competition Series. Host RuPaul, already the most nominated reality host in Emmys history, scored his 10th win.

Joella later posted pictures of the look to Instagram alongside fellow queens and celebs at the show, including a cheeky side-by-side with Kori King (who arrived dressed as Michael Jackson) and a quick selfie with BLACKPINK’s Lisa.

It’s a red carpet moment that’s hard to forget, and we’ll still be talking about it long after awards season is over.
