People are using this horrible Vinted ‘letterbox scam’ to get a refund, and keep the item
Be careful if you’re selling on there
Everyone is selling on Vinted these days, but more and more people are getting caught out by nasty scams. A woman has gone viral on TikTok after making everyone aware of a new trick she calls the “letterbox scam” that buyers are using to get a refund, but still keep the item.
“There’s a new scam on Vinted, no one has spoken on TikTok about this yet, so please listen up,” she said in the video, which has had almost a million views. “This letterbox scam is completely different to all of the other scams you’ve been seeing on Vinted.”
The scammer buys something from a seller on Vinted through Yodel or InPost’s home delivery option, not to a collection point. These two delivery companies don’t do proof of shipping photos like Evri does, so the buyer claims the parcel was never delivered through their letterbox.

“This means they get to keep the item and get their money back. They get it refunded because they put in a claim and say that they have not received the parcel through their letterbox,” the TikTok user added. “This is happening so much on Vinted at the moment.”
Obviously, in some cases, the parcel has gone missing and it’s a genuine mistake, but scammers are using this excuse more and more to get their money back. So, how do you stop it from happening? The only way is to turn off the postage options that don’t have proof of delivery photos. So, that means switching off all options apart from DPD, Evri and Royal Mail.

“As a seller, please please please be careful with the people you are selling to. Make sure you look at their reviews, look at their accounts. Do they have reviews? Do they have anything in their bio? Does it look like a genuine person or are they just gonna scam you?” she concluded.
