Ditch the Freshers’ wristband – here’s the ultimate guide to the best nights out in the Toon
Where to go every night of the week
A-Level results are in – and you probably know which university you’re going to in September. If you’re studying in or around Newcastle, but don’t know where to begin your nightlife endeavours, we’ve got you covered.
Here’s your go-to guide introducing the most popular, student-friendly Newcastle clubs and events amongst Toon students for 2025 freshers.
The Social Club/Howlers
The Social club is found next to ChachaBuchi and Howlers, illuminating Collingwood Street at 3am. Inside, they’re all connected in a maze-like complex, that is buzzing with energy when its full, and you’re bound to lose some of your mates in after a few Jägerbombs The Howler’s ball pit – yes, there’s a ball pit – is always the first place to check. It’s extremely popular amongst students, with a few of the most popular events being held here.
Tropiloco
You can’t go to university at Newcastle without hearing of Tropiloco, or as it’s more commonly known, “trop”. It’s your standard Monday night out, playing classic pop and party tunes.
Northumbria Sports
If you’re going to Northumbria and play a sport, Howler’s is calling you. On a Wednesday, it’s home to Northumbria’s Sport’s Night, so be prepared to spot all sorts of athletes downing drinks and necking shots. Fitness is a lifestyle after all.
CASA
Another top contender out of the Newcastle clubs for 2025, CASA. After a long hard week of missing lectures, procrastinating at the Phil Rob and spontaneous nights out, you’ll most likely find yourself at CASA. House, Tech and Disco with added beats and live performers, end the week with a solid groove.
World Headquarters and GDT
Most Read
If you like house music, you’ll like Worldies. On the outskirts of Newcastle’s nightlife, tucked away in Carliol Square, this one’s for the hardcore dancers and ravers. From house and garage to Techno, they hold a range of high-energy events.
The firm favourite amongst students though is undoubtedly Groovy Disco Tech, more commonly known as GDT. Tickets start at £1, and every Tuesday, downstairs provides high energy disco, disco-house and disco-tech, whilst upstairs caters for heavy techno and trance lovers. GDT: The hint is in its name!
TheCUT and BLUR
A bit more alternative? Down St Nicholas’ Street, you’ll find indie-fans and rockers at TheCut. As of last year, it added BLUR to its roster. With tickets from £2, you can now enjoy a midweek, student-friendly, indie event, fusing pop and indie into a feel good soundtrack for your night.
If you need an alternative to Katy Perry on the weekend though, you can always confide in Jukebox Fridays and Atomic Saturdays. Once someone mentions Dog and Parrot, you’re bound to end up in theCUT.
TUP TUP Palace and Paradiso
Despite it’s close contact to theCUT, you’ll find a completely different vibe downstairs in TUP TUP Palace. It has events on from Tuesday – Sunday, with a heavy emphasis on R&B and Hip-Hop. Paradiso on a Friday is a student classic though. Tickets start at £3 and it has deals on doubles! Forget Mamma Mia, expect to hear a lot of Drake x
Soho Rooms and the Official Soho Sport’s Night
Voted The Tab Newcastle’s best club in the Toon, you can trust SOHO to provide deals and party anthems that make a good night out. Down Mosley Street on a Wednesday, you’ll see a line of athletes letting their hair down for the Official Soho Sport’s Night, so it’s one of the best Newcastle clubs for 2025.
If you’re going to Newcastle University and play a sport, get ready for you and your team to end the night here. I wonder how much protein is in a Jägerbomb?

The Points and Skint Thursday
You can find the points down the infamous Bigg Market: Newcastle’s very own strip. It’s amidst the hub of Newcastle’s nightlife, and is perfect when the maintenance loan isn’t cutting it (or you’ve spent too much on Tesco meal deals).
With £1 tickets and drinks every week, you can rely on Skint for a good night out with a uni budget. With a talkative DJ and high-energy anthems, you’re bound to have a laugh amongst the crowds at skint.
TheDEN and Space Mondays
On Neville Street you’ll find a fresh look for what was previously Bohemia. TheDEN is still continuing its established events, but has a sleeker dance and pop aesthetic this year.
Space Mondays is its weekly disco event, continuing in the clubs back alley area. Playing a fusion of disco, dance and pop tunes, it’s another student-favourite, particularly with those £1 Jägerbombs.
