Why everyone is losing their minds over Calvin Harris’ post announcing his son’s birth

Your TikTok and Twitter are probably full of posts telling you not to look at Calvin Harris’ latest Instagram post. If you haven’t fallen victim to looking yet, you must be very confused about what’s going on.

“Do NOT check Calvin Harris’ Instagram,” one viral tweet says, which has had almost 20 million views. Another adds: “You guys are not ready to see the newest Calvin Harris post on Instagram, too much.”

Some people are calling the post “traumatising” and a huge “jumpscare,” but others are defending the Scottish DJ for normalising such a beautiful thing. Right, here’s what’s actually going on.

People are losing their minds over Calvin Harris’ Instagram post

Earlier this week, Calvin posted a lovely Instagram photo announcing the birth of his new son, Micah. The picture shows him holding the newborn, and he wrote in the caption: “20th of July our boy arrived. Micah is here! My wife is a superhero and I am in complete awe of her primal wisdom! Just so grateful. We love you so much Micah.”

As you scroll along, there are more photos from the birth, including two of the birthing pool inside his swanky Ibiza villa overlooking the mountains. Then comes the picture that everyone is losing their minds over.

He posted a very graphic photo of his wife Vick Hope’s placenta, the cord was shaped into a heart. After that, there is another picture of them dehydrating the placenta in a strange machine and turning into pills. If you want to look, the post is here.

Others are praising Calvin Harris for ‘normalising’ childbirth

However, others are praising Calvin for sharing something that is actually very normal, and raising more awareness of what actually happens during childbirth.

“Congratulations! Thank you for normalising home birth (and placentas!) with these beautiful pictures. What a dream,” someone said.

Another added: “The dramatics. I thought it was going to be something crazy. This is LITERALLY apart of life. More people should probably know what placentas look like.”

“Love that someone with a high profile is sharing this. Let’s normalise normal body things, especially when it comes to the magic of birth,” a third person wrote.
