Scott Porter opens up about that Paul scene in Ginny and Georgia and why he didn’t want to do it
‘It was just so emotionally charged’
So, season three of Ginny and Georgia was filled with drama and intense scenes. The explosive ending was such a rollercoaster of emotions. But it wasn’t just the wild ending; the whole season was emotionally charged. Like the scene where Paul completely loses it and punches the wall just above Georgia’s head. It was tense, shocking, and made a lot of viewers feel seriously uncomfortable. And it turns out the actor who plays Paul, Scott Porter, wasn’t exactly thrilled about filming it either.
So, why did he not want to do it?

Speaking to Us Weekly, Scott admitted he didn’t want to do it at all. “I was very resistant to hitting the wall,” he said. “I was very like, I can’t do this. Paul can’t do that.” I understand.
Scott explained that the show’s director, Sharon Lewis, helped him see it differently. She told him it wasn’t about anger, but about hurt. That Paul was completely heartbroken in that moment, not just furious.
Throughout the show, Paul’s been the calm one. The sensible one. The guy trying to do the right thing. So watching him snap like that really threw viewers and clearly, it threw Scott too.

“I really tried to bring out Paul’s heartbreak,” Scott said. “The moment that actually I think clicked for me the most was in that scene when Georgia says the words, ‘I can’t trust you to Paul.’” That line properly hit Paul where it hurts. “He’s been begging her to trust him since season one,” Scott added. So for her to say that, he just doesn’t get it.
Basically, Paul had just found out that Georgia had been keeping some seriously huge secrets from him, including her involvement in multiple deaths. Then she tried to trick him into staying by pretending their daughter was pregnant. It was all a bit much.
Scott also said the whole scene was super emotional to film. “You hear me yell ‘why’ off camera,” he said. The crew encouraged the actors to talk over each other to make it feel real and messy. “We didn’t do too many takes. We were so prepared… it was just so emotionally charged.”
Even though it’s a tough scene to watch, Scott said it was never about Paul being abusive. “It’s an immediate regret for Paul at that moment. He never ever meant to hurt her. That was never his intention.”
Still, people have definitely been giving Paul a hard time online. “People are a little grumpy with Paul,” Scott said. “But the thing I want everybody to remember is every single character in our show is flawed because every person that walks this earth is flawed.”
Season three ended in complete chaos for Paul. His marriage was falling apart, his job as mayor was hanging by a thread, and everything he believed in was kind of slipping away.
Scott said he’s excited to see where Paul goes next in season four. “There’s parts of Paul we still don’t understand and we haven’t seen. So his resilience and how he rebounds… I’d love to see some of that. We’ve heard how good he is at his job. I’d love to see that fight, that wit, that charm come back a little bit in season four.”
Honestly, same.
