The top five Ginny scenes in Ginny and Georgia that made me pause, cringe and stare at the wall

I’m sorry, but some of these were genuinely hard to watch

So, Ginny and Georgia are back on Netflix, and so is the cringe. It’s been two and a half years without Ginny crying over every minor inconvenience and blaming her mom for it. I mean, when you have a murderer for a mom, it is hard. But there are moments, especially Ginny scenes, that gave me second-hand embarrassment in ways I can’t explain.

So, before I lose any more aura points, here are the top five Ginny scenes that made me absolutely cringe:

5. ‘Black like your heart’

When Marcus asks Ginny for a black coffee and says, “no milk,” she responds with, “Black like your heart?”

Okay, who is writing these lines? I get that she’s supposed to be 15, but do actual high school teens talk like this? It’s giving bad Wattpad fanfic energy.

4. Ginny making breakfast for Paul

Umm… I don’t know what I expected from this scene, right after Paul says Ginny’s making breakfast, but it definitely wasn’t her walking in slow-mo with all that main character energy.

Actually, that’s my bad. I should have expected it. It’s clearly meant to be a moment of empowerment or something, but it just ends up feeling awkward. Cringe level: Unlocked.

3. Ginny saw a kid litter and started crying

So, this scene is supposed to be emotional, Ginny’s venting about everything that’s been weighing her down. It’s heavy, sure. But then, right at the end, she randomly says she saw a kid litter… and starts crying. Apparently, she’s overwhelmed because “no one cares about the planet.”

I’m sorry, what now? That’s what tipped you over the edge?

2. Ginny and Hunter’s big fight scene

This was their big dramatic breakup, and it was a lot. They try to unpack identity, race, and belonging but it spirals into a messy back-and-forth where both of them throw out weird, uncomfortable lines about each other’s backgrounds. At one point, Hunter says something about how hard he worked to fit in, and Ginny fires back that she never even had that option. Then it suddenly turns into a bizarre contest about who’s more authentically Asian or Black.

Yes, this is the scene where Ginny tells Hunter, “You’re barely even Asian,” and Hunter claps back with, “I’ve never seen you pound back jerk chicken.”

I had to pause. And rethink my life. And maybe go outside for some air.

1. The salute scene

This one had to take the top spot. I don’t know how they filmed this with a straight face.

So Marcus kisses Ginny even though he’s with Padma. The next day at school, Ginny walks up to him, and Marcus is visibly stressed thinking she’s about to snitch. But instead, she says, “There’s something you should know… There’s something on your shirt.” Then she salutes him and walks off. In slow motion. With intense music playing.

What is it with Ginny and Georgia and their obsession with slow-mo plus dramatic music? This scene takes the cringe crown: The dialogue, the salute, the walk, the music, ugh. It gave me the ick instantly. Who let this go through the final edit?
