Black Mirror creator reveals his three best season seven easter eggs, and they’re so good

I bet you didn’t spot the last one

Black Mirror season seven seems to have more easter eggs than ever before, and the show’s creator Charlie Brooker has revealed his three favourite ones.

From the hidden QR code at the end of Plaything to the Barnies vs Bernies saga and the nods to San Junipero, there are literally so many.

However, none of those feature in Brooker’s top three.

The clever link in Plaything

Speaking to Huffington Post, he said one of his favourite details is Plaything’s links to an old episode, Bandersnatch. He explained that it’s not really a sequel, but it’s got some of the same characters, including Mo Tucker and Colin Rickman. The creator said those characters are “so fun” to him, which is why he loves the secret link.

Bandersnatch was probably the most famous Black Mirror episode of all time because it was interactive, allowing viewers to choose the story and change the ending. The episode is about a young programmer who starts to question reality after he adapts a fantasy novel into a video game.

The Demon 79 cameo

Another one of his favourite easter eggs in season seven is Anjana Vasan, a character from an old episode called Demon 79, popping up in the final episode, USS Callister: Into Infinity.

Demon 79 was the season six episode about a sales assistant in 1979 England called Nida who is told she must commit terrible acts to prevent disaster, but she accidentally releases a demon along the way.

The reoccurring prop

Brooker’s favourite easter egg by far is the item that appears in every single episode of Black Mirror season seven. He didn’t actually say what it was, telling people they need to watch it again to find it for themselves.

However, people have finally worked out that it’s the yellow and orange Bandernatch book from the original episode which appears somewhere in all six episodes. So sneaky!
