Flat group chats and FIXR: Eight things all Exeter Uni students will have on their phones

Of course, Deliveroo is on there

Like any standard student, your screen time is probably far higher than you’d hope it to be. Whether you spend most of your time bed-rotting and scrolling on TikTok or using study apps to get OFF your phone, there are certainly some things that will be found on every Exeter Uni student’s phone.

With all of us having to download numerous apps for nights out, nights in and even for Circuit Laundry, there are apps on our phones that we need to survive at the University of Exeter (and of course others are for pure entertainment).

So, with this being said, here’s everything you will find on an Exeter student’s phone.

1. The flat group chat

Ahh, the group chat that is enforced on every first year student’s Snapchat in Freshers’ Week.

The flat group chat is both a fun and terrifying experience. Mostly contained with messages from your flatmate who is begging to be let in after losing their key AGAIN, there will be the occasional funny snaps from your Fever Monday night out and flat shenanigans. It’s the easiest way to stay in the loop or in the drama…

2. FIXR

One app that you must have notifications turned on for is FIXR. This app is a staple on an Exeter student’s phone, as it’s the primary way to secure their clubbing tickets for the week ahead. It isn’t for the weak though, good luck getting a TP Friday ticket later than 7:30pm.

3. A million alarms

If you’ve got any chance of waking up for an 8:30am lecture or, realistically, even an 11:30am, your clock app will be flooded with a million alarms. You’ll likely snooze them all and resort to catching your lectures up online later…which you’ll never do.

4. Laundry app

Another app which requires you to fight other students is Washnet. Circuit Laundry will remain the bane of Exeter Uni students’ lives.

Unless you wake up early enough to do laundry when it’s quiet, you may spend all day checking this app to see if any machines are free. And when you finally manage to reserve one, make sure to get your washing in before the machine is up for grabs again.

5. Apple Taxis App

With the numerous hills in Exeter, Apple Taxis is the go-to for many students’ transport. Do you actually expect me to walk home from a night out? Of course, this’ll be installed on an Exeter student’s phone if they cannot stand walking up Forum Hill, Cardiac Hill or just live in Pinhoe.

You can’t blame students for using the Apple Taxis app more than they care to admit.

6. Facebook

At the University of Exeter, having Facebook downloaded is a MUST. Although many of us believe Facebook is for our parents, it’s the best way to get all the Exeter Uni inside scoop which is via Overheard.

Whether you’re scrambling for a last minute ticket to TP, found someone’s lost keys and handed it to the Fever bar or even keeping up to date on the latest Exeter pranks (like the beaning situation), Overheard is a life-saver.

7. Night out pics

On every Exeter student’s phone, without a doubt, are the night out photos. The ones that you wake up to the next morning, bringing back the thousand forgotten moments of a blurry night. Though you may find some hidden in the depths of your camera roll, your friends will be sure to jump scare you with a few in the group chat. We all have at least one post-night out Efes picture…

8. Deliveroo

Finally, the app that we know every Exeter student has on their phone, of course it’s the Deliveroo app – an app that we all downloaded “just in case”. But judging by the amount of Deliveroo cyclists zooming through my accommodation every evening, I’d imagine Exeter students’ screen time on this app has increased since coming to uni.
