All the MAFS Australia contestants who claim they lost their jobs after controversy on the show

I would advise not going on reality TV if you want to be a teacher

A fair few MAFS Australia alumni claim to have lost their jobs following controversial appearances on the show. I guess employers watch all the drama unfold on MAFS too. Here’s a rundown of all the cast members who claim this happened to them.

Alyssa Barmonde

Remember Alyssa from MAFS Australia 2023? She had a child and told everyone at least ten times per episode? Some MAFS viewers felt Alyssa’s very emotional responses were quite intense compared to the events were saw on screen. Duncan ended their relationship at final vows. Alyssa claimed her portrayal on the show was “unfair” because her reactions to Duncan’s behaviour were shown without full context.

Before her stint on MAFS, Alyssa was an executive assistant at a company in Sydney for seven years. She told The Daily Telegraph Australia she was made redundant in a remarkable “coincidence” two weeks after the finale aired in Australia. Alyssa began having therapy three times a week. She said: “It was really dark for a couple of months.” She began selling t-shirts with her catchphrase “I have a child” on.

Jacqui Burfoot

Ah, what would MAFS Australia 2025 be without Jacqui? Before filming MAFS, she worked at a legal recruitment agency (in addition to being a model, yoga instructor and business owner, of course).

Jacqui told Sky she tried to continue her career in New South Wales after MAFS Australia, but she couldn’t stay in the job once MAFS started airing in Australia.

She said: “I essentially left my job after I tried to go back to work because I was mentally distressed and couldn’t work. I’ve been unable to continue my career… I’ve been left to fend on my own, basically.

“I couldn’t function at work. I just couldn’t. My capacity to perform wasn’t there.”

Jacqui doesn’t think she will be able to have a similar job again for at least two years, and only if she dyed her hair.

Olivia Frazer

The 2022 bride was matched with Jackson. Very memorably, she was linked to the nude photo scandal that year. Olivia reportedly asked her friends to “dig up dirt” on another MAFS bride, Domenica. This led to someone finding a nude photo Domenica once posted on Twitter to promote her OnlyFans. Other MAFS contestants ended up seeing it. Olivia denied being the one to find this picture, and said she only showed the picture on her phone to other people while she was drunk.

The whole thing was not good for Olivia’s career in schools. Before MAFS, she worked as an administrative assistant at a prestigious Australian school. She was studying to become a teacher.

She said on the Eyes Wide Open podcast: “I lost my whole career because of what they did to me on that show.

“Because of what they portrayed on the show and subsequent articles that came out, there is no way I’ll ever be able to be a teacher.

“Like when my name is synonymous with revenge pornography, which is just clever editing in reality, who’s gonna let that teach their children? What parent would let that teacher be a big influence on their child’s life?”

Tim Gromie

Er, the groomsman at Tim’s MAFS Australia wedding claimed he lost his job because of the show. Tim (although that’s not his real name) was a P.E. teacher at a primary school. His stint on MAFS Australia 2025 was short yet memorable. Several MAFS viewers were not impressed with how he treated his bride Katie.

According to So Dramatic! Tim lost his job after his time on MAFS Australia. His groomsman Luke Stapleton claimed “the damage was done” on the show and Tim lost his teaching job. Luke said Tim is exactly how he came across on TV.
