Guinness and good craic: How to make the most of St Paddy’s Day in Bristol
St Patrick’s Day – every uni student’s dream
St Patrick’s Day is fast approaching. Get ready to wear the most obnoxiously green outfit and have a great excuse to down copious pints of Guinness. Here is the best way to spend the sacred holiday from me, a viable source, (someone who’s Ancestry DNA test has told them they’re at least 60 per cent Irish). That’s enough right?
The Green house
This year The Green House is boasting a whole range of St Patrick’s day drinks, cocktails, and even a themed bottomless brunch. You can take day drinking to a whole other level from the 15th-17th of March with the St Patrick’s Day brunch which includes a meal and two hours of unlimited drinks – which means all the Guinness your heart desires. For all the cocktail lovers, try their exclusive range which includes the Shamrock Shandy, Baby Mint Shot, and Guinness Punch because mixing more alcohol with stout could surely never be a bad idea?
Seamus O’Donnells
Feel patriotic and pay an actual Irish pub a visit because you know they’ll be going all-out on the 17th. Seamus O’Donnells has a range of live music on St Patrick’s Day to get you in the true spirit. They have entertainment from as early as 1pm so you can make a day of the festivities in the way St Patrick himself would have intended it. I mean who needs to go to a Monday afternoon lecture when there’s a drag performance and drinks awaiting them?
Wetherspoons
Most Read
It’s tried and true. You always know Spoons will have a good deal for any occasion and St Patrick’s Day is no exemption. Wetherspoons are generously offering pints of Guinness for £3.15. Whilst it might not be the best pour of your life, you can’t complain with those prices, especially not in Bristol. Other deals include two for £8 baby Guinness shots which could definitely be the beginning of an unforgettable night out.
0.0 percent Guinness
I know there are some of you reading this who are looking for an alternative way to spend the holiday or want a switch up from the drinking. I present to you the Bristol locations which serve non-alcoholic Guinness – so no one has to miss out. Across the city a variety of locations supply a 0.0 percent option: The Mall and Channings in Clifton, O’Neills in the city centre, and The Flyer on Gloucester Road. With such a wide range there is no excuse to get your Guinness fix on the most appropriate day of the year.
King Street
King Street is always a Paddy’s Day essential. The atmosphere is amazing, with an abundance of pubs to choose from, which is great because it does get super busy. There is usually live music and it genuinely feels like half of Bristol has congregated here to celebrate the luck of the Irish. You can bring your own tinnies too if you sit on the benches at the end of the street, so you will probably end up saving money – however, it would be wrong to not get a freshly poured pint of Guinness from one of the pubs.
Clubbing
For those who want to take St Patrick’s Day past the pub, The Fleece is hosting a themed club night on the 15th of March. Irish nationalism and indie music may not seem an obvious pairing to start the celebrations but I definitely think there’s a niche out there (hello Inhaler and Fontaines D.C.). This is definitely the best time to dress up in all your green attire for a fun-themed night with all your friends. Tickets start as cheap as £5 in advance, so this is definitely something you’ll want to add to your weekend of festivities.
Bingo Lingo XL
If you weren’t expecting to make a visit to Document on St Patrick’s Day weekend, then you might want to think again. This Bristol-based venue are hosting Bingo Lingo St Paddy’s Day special on Friday 14th and Saturday the 15th of March to get you in the Irish spirit. What says “I love St Patrick’s Day” more than their top prize of a holiday to the capital of Ireland itself. There’s nothing to lose when a student ticket is only £11.25 and they provide entertainment such as a live Irish band to really celebrate the holiday.
