Stop scrolling: The Nottingham Tab is looking for brand new writers

Meet us at our open meeting on Monday 3rd February from 5pm at Mooch

The Nottingham Tab team are looking for more writers to join the team.

Another year, another open meeting for Notts students to join The Tab. To kick off semester two, The Nottingham Tab would like you to join them at Mooch on Monday 3rd February at 5pm.

UON’s favourite student bar is in the Portland Building on University Park Campus. Don’t worry if you’re nervous, the Notts editorial team will be there in their gorgeous Tab T-shirts.

You can meet the editors team and potentially some of our current writers, have a chat, ask any questions and even have a few bevvies.

What is The Nottingham Tab?

The Nottingham Tab is part of a larger student news site, The Tab.

The Tab is a news site curated just for students, with nearly 10 million monthly readers, and local sites at over 30 universities across the UK.

Articles published by The Nottingham Tab will be shared across our social media platforms which, combined, have nearly 36,000 followers.

Most notably our Instagram page has just over 14,000 followers and we have every intention to grow this over the next academic year. Our reach means your work can find its way onto the feeds of huge viral accounts, local venue and club pages, and industry connections that will become so important to your career in journalism.

We have also recently launched a TikTok account so if you would prefer to create video content alongside, or instead of, written content, we’re always looking for people to get involved.

We’ve currently got over 312k likes across a small handful of videos, hitting over one million views on a single TikTok!

We’ve had a successful first term with some huge articles coming out, especially covering Bonnie Blue on the national site and our most recent success about Freddie from the Traitors.

We’ve been covering some really important news such as the introduction of UoN’s new VC, NTU’s severence scheme, and various crime related stories.

Whatever you want to write about, we will have something you’re interested in and if we don’t, we’ll work with you to find something you love.

Why join The Nottingham Tab?

Why should you join us I hear you ask? Well for one we’re awesome (really modest too). Also it doesn’t matter who you are, what course you do, or if you’ve done any journalism before. As long as you go to University of Nottingham or Nottingham Trent University we’re happy to have you.

If you’re LinkedIn obsessed like the rest of us, its a great addition, gives you so much experience for writing and gives you that creative outlet you’re looking for if you’re stuck in a lab five out of seven days a week.

There’s no pressure to write, you can pick and chose what you want and we always welcome new ideas of what to write. The best part as always is that you can do it from the comfort of your own home or wherever you want really. If you want to write an article in Ocean, be our guest…

Writing for The Nottingham Tab will also give you invaluable experience in the journalism industry, and an opportunity to be a part of a young and dynamic team. Previous contributors and editors at The Tab have gone on to write for national and international publications, such as Vice, BBC, and The Times.

Our team of student editors are available to train you and help you write articles, as well as a professional journalist from The Tab HQ. You’ll have support during every step of the process.

So, how can you be a part of The Nottingham Tab?

We try to have weekly meetings and host fun socials with editors and writers, making it a fun way to meet new and like minded people.

Our open meeting is for everyone. No matter what you study or what year you’re in, if you are keen to write, please come along.

You don’t need any experience or ideas but if you have any further questions, send us a message on Instagram @thetab_nottingham.

Also, if you can’t make the meeting but want to join, DM us on Instagram!

We look forward to seeing you on Monday 3rd February from 5pm at Mooch.
