Inside the ‘shock’ conversation Marcel had with ex wife about appearing on Love Island All Stars

‘Rebecca realised her mistakes lead to me being at this point’

Marcel Somerville has opened up about the awkward moment in which he had to tell his former wife he was going on Love Island All Stars. He was married before going back to the villa, and is currently still going through the process of his divorce.

Marcel left Love Island 2017 with Gabby, but they split after it was revealed he cheated. After breaking up with Gabby, Marcel got into a relationship with Rebecca Vieira. Marcel and Rebecca welcomed a son, Roman, in January 2021. He and Rebecca then got married in August 2022.

However, he and Rebecca split up in March last year. She then posted to say she was the reason their marriage didn’t work out, and admitted she had cheated on Marcel with American rapper, Slim Jxmmi. Despite being in the process of his divorce, Marcel then accepted the chance to appear on All Stars, to try and find love again.

Speaking to The Tab ahead of the villa, he said he “of course” sat down with his ex Rebecca, and spoke of his plans to go back on Love Island. He said his “2024 was hard” and he planned to take himself “away from the negatives of last year” to “build on confidence.”

‘It probably came as a shock to her’

Talking of Rebecca knowing he was going on All Stars, Marcel told The Tab: “Of course I told her. There was no way I could go on and not tell her. I’m not just going to disappear.” He joked there was no chance his son Roman wouldn’t know where he was because “daddy is on TV now”.

He said he and Rebecca sat down and “had a convo” about his appearance. “It probably came as a shock to her,” Marcel admitted. “But I was at a crossroads. Either stay in an unhappy relationship, or move on. I moved on, and other opportunities arose.

“She [Rebecca] realised her mistakes lead to me being at this point. She’s accepted it. I don’t think I should be scrutinised for moving on with my life. I won’t put my life on hold for years whilst [divorce] paperwork gets done.”

Marcel added he hoped going into the villa would be an “exciting adventure” to bring “positive energy” back into his life. “My confidence was lost [from the split],” he said. “I lost my worth a little bit.”
