He’s a crowd divider, but one of the main character in Squid Game 2 is Thanos – and he’s played by a real life rapper. Some think his character in the show is insufferable and evil, whilst others can’t help but love him. Let’s be real, that’s probably exactly what the show wanted.

In real life, Thanos (Player 230) actor Choi Seung-hyun is a Korean K-pop star and rapper, just like the character he portrays. He began his music career as an underground rapper. He eventually joined the huge Korean label YG Entertainment (the same one as BLACKPINK), and joined BIGBANG in 2006. Here, he began using the stage name T.O.P.

In 2016, BIGBANG were the first South Korean band to be included in Forbes’ top 100 richest celebrities list, after earning $44million that year.

Things took a bit of a turn when in 2017, Choi paused his career to complete military service as a conscripted police officer. That year, he was indicted for using marijuana several times in October 2016. He pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced 10-months in jail, suspended for two years. This has caused a bit of backlash towards his casting in Squid Game.
