Katy Perry’s getting rinsed again for her cringe appearance as a RuPaul’s Drag Race judge

Katy Perry cannot do right for doing wrong, bless her. In case you missed it, Katy Perry just got announced as a guest judge on the upcoming season 17 of RuPaul’s Drag Race – and her little preview clip is already getting her rinsed online. It’s honestly a bit surreal that Katy Perry has never been a Drag Race judge before? Feels like something that should have happened. Anyway, she’s in the firing line again getting dragged for, well, trying too hard to be iconic. Remember that meme of her squeezing the arms of a fan and someone jokingly captioned it “tell me I’m a gay icon” – it’s giving that.

The clip is just from the trailer for the upcoming RuPaul’s Drag Race season 17 (season 17 – how did we get there, wow) and there’s a very brief clip of Katy Perry saying “She ate, she chewed, she swallowed.”

This is the offending line in question, which has prompted many an online eye roll. It’s giving “Wig… did you just say wig” all over again. Although I do think it’s a bit cringe, I’m not sure the vitriol from viewers would be quite as moany as it is right now if Katy Perry hadn’t just dropped one of the worst albums of the year that still gets ridiculed daily online.

She does have her defenders, though – with one response saying the online attitude to Katy Perry right now is so bad and that she can’t do anything right at the moment, which I’d be wan to agree with – although I do think she put herself in that position this year. “Y’all coming for her over six words she said.
