This hilarious Gavin and Stacey character was supposed to be in the finale but got axed
He would have been iconic
Gavin and Stacey has officially come to an end after 17 years and the finale couldn’t have been any better.
The entire cast returned for one final episode on Christmas Day, including Smithy, Nessa, Gavin, Stacey, Bryn, Pam and Mick.
There were even some surprising appearances that no one expected including Sheridan Smith as Smithy’s sister Rudy.
Ruth Jones has revealed another character was supposed to make an appearance too – Dick Powell!
However, he was axed from the finale in a script rewrite and they needed to bring the episode length down.
“In the original script, I think we had Dick Powell at one point, didn’t we? There just wasn’t room for him. God bless him… it was lovely to bring everyone back,” she said.
Dick, played by Gwynfor Roberts, is the Welsh man that nobody could understand because of his thick accent.
In series one, Bryn reveals he’s the only person who can speak Welsh in Barry, but we don’t see him in the flesh until series three.
He arrives at a barbecue with a freezer box full of meat to sell and Mick is worried about where the meat has actually come from.
Dick had a pretty minor part so it’s not surprising that he was cut, but an appearance from him certainly would have got a massive laugh.
Smithy’s friend Deano was missing from the finale too, but all the others were there including Budgie, Chinese Alan, Fingers and Dirtbox.
We didn’t see Nessa’s dad Ifan Huw Dafydd at the wedding either, who previously appeared in scenes at Neil the baby’s Christening.

Played by Neil Jenkins, the character said he felt uncomfortable about being back in Barry, but we never found out why.
The only other person who wasn’t in the finale is Doris, Gwen’s elderly neighbour. Margaret John, who played the character, sadly passed away in 2011.
