Ariana Grande breaks her silence on the intense body shaming she constantly experiences

It’s been part of her life since she was 16

Ariana Grande has addressed how she deals with today’s beauty standards and the constant criticism of her body in a new interview.

Speaking to French influencer Sally alongside her Wicked co-star Cynthia Erivo, the actress choked up a little when she was asked to speak about the “pressure to look perfect”.

“I’ve been a specimen in a petri-dish really since I was 16 or 17, so I’ve heard it all. I’ve heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me, and then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons,” she emotionally revealed.

The actress said it’s really “hard to protect yourself from that noise” and body shaming is uncomfortable for anyone “no matter what scale you are experiencing it on”.

“Even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s Granny says, ‘Oh my God, you look skinnier, what happened?’ Or ‘You look heavier, what happened?’ It’s like that is something uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it’s happening.”

Ariana said that in today’s society, everyone feels too “comfortable” commenting on other people’s looks, appearance, health and what’s going on behind the scenes.

“From what you’re wearing to your body to your face to your everything. There’s a comfortability that people have commenting on that, and I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved.”

The 31-year-old added that she’s “really lucky” to have her support system and now “knows and trusts” that she is beautiful no matter what anyone else says.

“But I do know what the pressure of that noise feels like. It’s been a resident in my life since I was 17. And I just don’t invite it in anymore. It’s not welcome. I have work to do, I have a life to live. I have friends to love on. I have so much love. And it’s not invited, so I don’t leave space for it anymore.”

“And however you all can protect yourselves from that noise, whether it’s at a family reunion or online, whether you have to block people. I don’t care if you’ve deleted the app entirely, you keep yourself safe because no one has the right to say s**t.”
