People found a video of Ariana Grande on the Wicked set saying ‘holding space’ a year ago

The greatest meme foreshadowing to ever exist

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo have spent most of the Wicked press tour being hilarious and turning an iconic film into an even more iconic meme. People are losing their minds after finding a video of Ariana Grande on the set of Wicked quoting the most famous meme of the film’s release.

On Wednesday evening, a new video was shared by the Wicked movie YouTube channel which took fans behind the scenes of the Ozdust Ballroom sequence, in which Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande’s characters finally put their differences aside and dance together in front of their fellow classmates. It was a real tear-jerker of a scene and had most viewers weepy in the cinema.

In the clip, the cast and crew spoke about what being on set was like that day, and even revealed that Cynthia’s tears as Elphaba were all unscripted. However, the part of the video people really care about is at 1:33.

In the video, Ariana spoke about Elphaba’s energy: “Everyone in the room felt it with her. Everyone was just kind of holding space for Elphaba in that room – and you could hear a pin drop.”

Yes, Ariana said “holding space,” which echoed the legendary interview where Tracy Gilchrist told her people were “holding space” for the lyrics of Defying Gravity which made both Ariana and Cynthia get emotional. People have also poked fun at the way Ariana is holding Cynthia’s finger.

When Tracy told them people were “holding space” for the lyrics of Defying Gravity, Cynthia responded “I didn’t know that was happening. That’s really powerful.”

The meme has become one of the highlights of the press tour and people on X can’t believe Ariana foreshadowed it in Wicked rehearsals over a year ago.

One user wrote: “The prophecy was foretold on that day.”

Another said: “Anything she speaks comes into existence like at this point she really is a witch because WTF.”

Just another day of musical theatre fans being the funniest people alive.
