Skiing down Derby Road: How Notts students spent their time in the snow

The snow in Nottingham caused chaos but also brought communities together

On Monday night various parts of the country saw snow and Nottingham was one of those places. Giving many students in the city a reason to go out and enjoy the fresh air and the rare occurrence of “proper” winter weather.

People in Nottingham were quick to get out of their houses once the snow started to set and social media showed videos and pictures of snowball fights, snowmen building and even a few people got their skis on.

Lots of people find different ways to find enjoyment in the cold weather. One Notts Tab reader commented on social media saying she was happy to be “snuggled up with a hot chocolate and a blanket” where as others decided the best part of it was “lectures being cancelled”.

Buses in Nottingham didn’t seem to be as kitted out for the cold weather with multiple videos showing people giving them an extra push up hills or on snowy roads. One video showed a National Express coach actually sliding backwards down the hill – however, a TikTok showed a crowd gathering to stop it sliding and help get it on its way.

With some lectures cancelled and people staying at home due to public transport cancellations, the snow definitely had an impact on Nottingham students’ everyday lives. As it only happens every so often, everyone seemed to make the most of it whilst they could.

However, the snow is melting quickly and will soon be a memory of the past with people returning to their regularly scheduled days and the weather will get warmer again.
