Here are some of the best places to eat in Nottingham if you have a plant-based diet
Because plant-based food doesn’t have to be just salad and tofu
Looking for suggestions on where to have your next meal out? Struggling to find places that cater to your diet while still having non-veggie options for your friends?
Whether you’re a newbie, long time veggie, or just interested in trying vegetarian foods, look no further.
I have complied some of the top locations to help you find the best plant-based scran in Notts so you’re not stuck with a stuffed aubergine on every meal out.
The Rose and Crown
Craving a hearty pub meal but worried about being served a dry bean burger? Check out the Rose and Crown on Derby Road.
While vegan options are somewhat limited to two dishes, this is an amazing place for vegetarians to get some quick hearty food to wash down with a (somewhat affordable) pint. The Beyond burger is both veggie and vegan and is a personal favourite of mine.
Options for veggies range from flatbread to mac ‘n’ cheese, with good portion sizes.
If you’re craving something sweet, the vegan apple pie is a must try, if not perhaps the veggie Biscoff cheesecake is more your thing.
Pub food is often sub-par for veggies but the Rose and Crown ticks all the right boxes for me.
Kitty Café
If you like good food and love cats, Kitty Café on Friar Lane is the place for you.
Kitty Café have seriously upped their standard with vegetarian food. With a veggie option in each food category, it’s no surprise they are on this list.
Most Read
Don’t be fooled by the name, Kitty Café also serves less conventional café food items such as pizzas and quesadillas. A personal favourite of mine is the cheese and onion “Paw-Fect” Toastie, served with salad and coleslaw – they really go the extra mile.
If you are plant-based, there’s no doubt you love animals so you’ll be pleased to hear about the very strict welfare procedures they have in place to ensure all the kittys are happy and cared for.
I won’t blame you if you go solely to see the cats.
Avocafé
The very popular AvoCafé is well known in the student community and is based on Park Street, off to the side of the Savoy Cinema.
Avo offers brilliant whole food options with many vegan adaptations. If you’re into clean eating this is definitely a place to try.
Keep an eye out for a veggie soup of the day, and if you’re lucky enough to try their tomato and basil soup you won’t be disappointed.
Other options include: Chilli ‘Sin’ Carne (GCSE Spanish taught me this means ‘without meat’), Japanese Soba noodles, avocado and halloumi baguette, and my personal favourite, the tofu buddha bowl.
If you’re looking for some delicious food to complement your study session, this is the place to be.
Pizza Punks
Tired of the boring margarita or vegetable pizza? Looking for a hotspot to try new combos? Look no further than Pizza Punks.
With loads of toppings to choose from on the ‘create your own pizza’, you’ll have a field day.
They have just about every vegetable topping you can imagine and, if you’re into your imitation meat, jackfruit, ‘nduja, pepperoni and Tuscan sausage.
It’s a bit difficult to be served a pizza you don’t like since the options are completely up to you! They also have plenty of plant-based starters such as the vegan garlic cheese bomb.
