All the UK unis that slayed in the Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings
25 UK unis are ranked in the best 200 unis in the world
25 UK unis were really high up on Times Higher Education’s new rankings of all the unis in the world (yay!).
23 of these are Russell Group unis. Queen’s University Belfast is the only Russell Group uni not to be ranked in the top 200 unis in the world. Ouch.
The University of Oxford topped the Times Higher Education’s world rankings for the ninth year in a row. Honestly, let somebody else have a turn.
Even though the University of St Andrews came second in The Times and The Guardian’s rankings for 2024, it completely flopped in the Times Higher Education rankings. It only came 185th, barely making it into the top 200. The University of Durham also came weirdly low. In 172nd place, it’s apparently a worse uni than Lancaster, Liverpool and Newcastle.
Times Higher Education explains where all these numbers actually come from here. Basically, Times Higher Education puts much more emphasis on the research environment, international outlook and income of the unis. It puts less emphasis on how happy the students actually are than other uni rankings do.
So, here all the UK unis that came in the top 200 unis in the world in Times Higher Education’s World University Rankings, and the position they came in. After the top 200, Times Higher Education doesn’t give the unis a specific rank, but just lists them as being part of a band.
