Here’s what Helaena’s eerie prophecy about Aemond meant in the House of the Dragon finale

It’s giving me shivers just thinking about it

We’ve heard a lot of prophecies from Helaena throughout House of the Dragon, but her most direct and eerie prophecy was directed at Aemond during the season finale. As far as track records go, Helaena has a pretty high track record with what she says coming true in House of the Dragon, so what could this season finale prophecy mean?

Well, if you’ve read the books you’ll probably have a pretty good idea of what she was talking about as it’s one of her most literal ones yet. But if not, do not fear as I’m here to explain exactly what she was going on about, and why it’s probably a good idea for Aemond to lose sleep over it.

During the House of the Dragon season finale, Aemond asks Helaena to fly with him to Harrenhal, after which she starts telling him her prophecy. She explains she she him burning Aegon II at the battle of Rook’s Rest before revealing: “Aegon will be king again. He’s yet to see victory. He sits on a wooden throne. And you, you will be dead. You are swallowed up in the Gods Eye, and you are never seen again.”

Whilst the first part of the prophecy is fairly clear cut, the second part is a little more mysterious. Whilst Aegon is still recovering from his injuries, he will be king again and the “wooden throne” could be in reference to the carriage he takes with Larys Strong to Essos.

The second part about Aemond being swallowed up “in the Gods Eye” is a very direct reference to how he dies in the original House of the Dragon books. In the books, Daemon asks Aemond to come to Harrenhal and fight him, and after 13 days he finally shows up. The epic duel takes place above the largest lake in Westeros called Gods Eye with both men saddling up on their dragons.

Aemond physically chains himself to Vhagar so he doesn’t fall off him whilst Daemon doesn’t attach himself to Caraxes. The two dragons start ripping each other apart, and Daemon takes the opportunity to jump from Caraxes to Vhagar before stabbing his sword through Aemond’s only remaining eye.

This kills Aemond and in the process, both dragons also die from the trauma of the fall. Whilst Daemon’s body is not recovered, Aemond’s slowly sinks to the bottom of the Gods Eye, hence him being “swallowed up.”
