Lancaster University rises two places in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide
We beat York by five places
Lancaster University has risen to 12th in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2025.
This is a rise of two places from the previous year, where Lancaster placed 14th in the country.
The ranking is determined by per cent of degrees awarded that are Firsts and 2:1s, graduate prospects, and continuation rate of students from first to second year.
According to the guide, Lancaster holds an average UCAS entry point score of 148, and a good honours score (per cent of students graduating with a First or a 2:1) of 86.1 per cent. It determines graduate prospects by the per cent of students in high skilled jobs or graduate level study, for which it gives Lancaster an 82.1 per cent, and the continuation rate of students from first to second year is 96.4 per cent.
Lancaster University placed five places higher than York, who at 17th, was down two places from the previous year.
Helen Davies, editor of The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide, said: “The best universities — whether they were founded in the 15th century or 2005 — are local and global powerhouses of intellectual thought and creativity, from the arts to science, that can power economic regeneration and lead the way to a better life. But what and where to study — and how to pay for it — has never been tougher. This is where our comprehensive guide can help.
“This year we have tweaked our methodology to keep up with contemporary concerns around climate change and careers and have added in a sustainability metric, teaming up with People & Planet, and boosted the weighting of graduate prospects.
“The higher education sector is facing unprecedented challenges from debates on free speech to financial stability, but it is important to remember the force for good that going to university can be.
