We’ve rated all the coffee spots on campus based on vibes, atmosphere and location

Coastal’s hot chocolates are elite!


It’s finally Lent term and we’ve all come back with resolutions to be academic weapons, which requires the perfect spot on campus to go get your next caffeine fix. Campus has loads of coffee spots and we’re here to tell you the best place to go for you.

Whether you go for a hot or cold drink, want a good place to study, or just want to quickly pop in and go straight to the library, campus has the perfect coffee spot for you. We’ve tried and tested all of the coffee spots on campus based on vibes, atmosphere and location so you don’t have to.

1. Coastal

Coastal is located on the North Spine and is very handy to pop in to get a quick drink on the way to lectures as well as having tables which are perfect to study at or have a catch-up with friends. They have a wide selection of drinks as well as our personal favourite, the deluxe hot chocolates (you definitely have to try one). The vibes and atmosphere in Coastal are chilled out and relaxed. Overall, Coastal is one of our favourite coffee spots on campus, no debate.

2. Costa

Costa is a coffee lover’s classic. It can get busy, but if you go at the right time, it can be the perfect study spot. With its various tables, its perfect if you’re looking for somewhere to do work other than the library. The vibes and atmosphere in Costa are chill and the staff are friendly. Although it can sometimes be pricey, it’s definitely not one to overlook.

3. Pendle Brew

Pendle Brew is the perfect place to study with the amazing vibes and atmosphere of the modern and clean cafe and the amazing music choices, making it one of the most underrated coffee spots on campus. Pendle Brew is the ultimate place for vegetarians, with the menu being all veggie and vegan. One of our personal faves here is the pints of iced coffee, with it being located not too far from main campus we highly recommend this coffee spot.

4. Greggs

Greggs is located in Alex Square and is a Lancs student favourite. From the low prices and the amazing sausage rolls, what more could you want? Although the vibes and atmosphere in the Greggs queue can be extremely busy and long, it’s definitely worth the wait.

5. Barkers

Barkers is part of Cartmel College, and if you ever happen to find yourself on south campus it is absolutely one you should consider going to. Barkers has its own Starbucks as well as plenty of space to study and many attractions such as pool, darts and a piano.

Barkers is the perfect coffee spot for students living on campus and one to try if you haven’t already.

6. Juicafe

Juicafe is located in Alexandra Square and is perfect if you are looking for something sweet. The smoothies and milkshakes are amazing although on the pricier side. The vibes and atmosphere in Juiscafe are very chilled out and perfect to pop in to satisfy your sweet tooth. Also, make sure to look out for Milkshake Monday where they have 10% off of chocolate bar milkshakes!

7. The Deli

The Deli is located on the south spine and is the perfect coffee spot if you are looking for a nice place for lunch with your friends. The hot chocolate and pancakes are one of our faves. The vibe in The Deli can be quite busy and on the louder side, but is great for a quick catch-up and a coffee.

8. HIVE

One of the most underrated coffee spots on campus is located on the Health Innovation campus. HIVE is a perfect place to study or even if you have just come out of the sports centre for a coffee and can’t face the hill to campus. HIVE has lots of study space and amazing views of campus and also has a chill and quiet vibe if you’re looking for a place to do some work.

9. The Marketplace

The Marketplace is located in County and is perfect if you want Costa coffee without the business of Costa. The Marketplace also offers food and is great if you are looking for somewhere to have lunch. The vibes and atmosphere here are relaxed, so is a great place to go and try out.

10. Cafe Republic

Cafe Republic is located on the south spine and is a Lancs student’s fave as it’s usually quite busy. The vibe and atmosphere here are very calm with the dim lighting making it a good place to study if you are looking for a more relaxed, low-key coffee spot. Not to mention, the latte art is BEAUTIFUL.

11. Hub

Hub is located in the Management School and is great to grab a coffee on the way to your lectures or seminars.If you fancy a change from chilling in the library, get a coffee here and sit in the large study space located nearby. The vibes and atmosphere in Hub are again, very chill. It is perfect if you are looking to grab a coffee and do work somewhere a bit more lively than the library.
