Students evacuated from homes due to fire at Kaspa’s cafe
A fire broke out at approximately 7am on the 17th June
Hannah CleryFirefighters were called to a fire at Kaspa’s in Lancaster city centre early on the morning of Saturday 17th June.
The dessert cafe on Penny Street is situated below CityBlock apartments, which is home to Lancaster University students.
An eye-witness said there appeared to be smoke and window damage to Kaspa’s and many students were on the street having been evacuated from the apartments above.
A road lane on Penny Street was closed, causing heavy traffic in the city centre on Saturday morning.
The fire service was called at 7:05am, with four fire engines from Silverdale, Morecambe, Bolton le Sands, and Preston attending the fire. Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed they used four breathing apparatus, two positive pressure ventilation fans, a hose reel, and a jet to extinguish the fire.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
By 9:45am, the road was fully open again.
