Lancaster University announces shortlist for LUSU Sports Awards 2023

The ceremony will celebrate Lancaster’s recent Roses win

Following on from Lancaster’s victory at Roses in York earlier this term, the shortlist for this year’s Sports Awards has been announced.

The details were shared on Instagram by Megan Homburg, Lancaster’s Students’ Union VP Sport.

The awards ceremony will take place at Barker House Farm on Wednesday 21st June, with tickets available to buy from the LUSU website.

In the post, Megan said: “After working our way through almost 300 nominations, the shortlist has been finalised. Winners are then selected by a panel made up of the Roses Committee led by the VP Sport (me). However, whether your club was shortlisted or not, we all have a lot to celebrate, this will be a jam packed event, and regardless of outcome, it’s not one to miss.”

Megan told the Lancaster Tab: “After what has been an historic year of sport, it is only right to honour our athletes with an awards ceremony. This year, there were almost 300 nominations total across an enormous variety of sports, which truly speaks to the passion of our teams. Nominated or not, each and every single person involved in sport this year deserves the opportunity to be celebrated and that is what this event is about. With so many nominations, it was extremely difficult to decide on a shortlist, and even harder for the panel to select a winner – each and every nominee should already be so proud of themselves.

“As VP Sport I am genuinely honoured to have been able to represent students in sport this year, every level of sport has done themselves and the university incredibly proud. There have been so many sporting highlights and things to celebrate, and I feel lucky to have been a part of it. This is not a year that I will forget quickly and I owe it all to the students and athletes.

“Come join us on Wednesday 21st June from 7pm at Barker House Farm (Cartmel Bar). Within the sporting world, there are few reasons to get out of your sports kit and into something smarter, and so this is the time! Whether your club is nominated or not, this will be a jam-packed event and a whole night of celebration – it’s not one to miss. A ticket entitles you to entry AND a two-course meal, so get your tickets now!! Sports Awards 2023 @ Lancaster Students’ Union (lancastersu.co.uk)
