A Cardiff Uni engineering student will be representing Wales in the upcoming Six Nations

Teddy Williams is currently signed with Cardiff Rugby

A Cardiff Uni engineering student has been selected for this year’s Welsh Six Nations squad.

Teddy Williams, a third year student from Cardiff University has been chosen by Warren Gatland to play in Wales’s 37 man Six Nations squad.

This is no rogue pick by Gatland as Williams has performed well for Cardiff Rugby recently, playing 478 minutes in the last 23 matches. He has also already played in a Six Nations, representing Wales U20s alongside doing his degree.

Williams spoke to Cardiff Rugby about his international call-up, saying: “I’m just shocked to be honest. It’s come as a surprise for me, but obviously I’m really chuffed.

“I was a team meeting at the time, when one of the boys showed me my name in the squad. So yes, as I say it was definitely a shock, but a nice one.

“It was really nice that all the boys came up to me to congratulate me, and a lot of them would’ve experienced this moment in their own careers.

“For me, I’ve been working as hard as I can to get as much game time as possible for Cardiff. That’s been the aim for me this year.”

Wales are scheduled to play Ireland on the 4th February, Scotland on the 11th, England on the 25th, Italy on the 11th of March and will finish off by playing the world number twos, France on the 18th.

Teddy Williams will be accompanied by his fellow uncapped Cardiff Rugby teammate Mason Grady as they make their international debut alongside this list of fine gentlemen.
