George Martin confirms another seven Game of Thrones spinoff shows are in development
I don’t know how many more I can take
If *that* House of the Dragon season finale left you feeling a bit tired of the Game of Thrones universe and various spinoff shows, then I have some bad news for you. George R.R. Martin recently revealed that there are not one, not two, but seven more Game of Thrones universe spinoff shows currently in development.
During a panel at the Oxford Writers’ House he shared that HBO is currently developing seven Game of Thrones spinoffs, which are in addition to House of the Dragon.
So far we know three of them are live action and four are animated, with the others remaining unknown. There is a live action series about Aegon the Conqueror, another called Ten Thousand Ships and one that we now have a trailer for called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. As for the animated series, we know that one of them will be about the adventures of a young Corlys Velaryon and another about the Golden Empire of Yi Ti.
Note that in this end-of-year wrap up, GRRM said two of four animated shows had been shelved. 8 months later, it seems they are un-shelved, or perhaps two new shows have entered development: https://t.co/wvFzz8xXnl #GoT #HotD #TWoIaF https://t.co/TkADYMr7vC

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be released on HBO later next year and takes place after the events of House of the Dragon, around 90 years before Game of Thrones takes place. The first season of the show will adapt George R.R. Martin’s first novella, The Hedge Knight and will consist of six episodes.

Ryan Condal, who is also a producer on House of the Dragon, explained more about the show to EW: “Those always stuck with me as such a wonderful counterpoint to George’s world, which was really about the upper crust of the 1 per cent: the kings and the high lords and ladies who essentially waged the game of thrones at the expense of the small folk. Well, Dunk and Egg is about the small folk who suffer at the hands of the game of thrones as it’s played by the nobles.”

Aegon The Conquerer is, unsurprisingly, about the life of Aegon and whilst we don’t know when it’s coming out it is currently in development.
Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin explained: “Unlike the original series, I don’t have thousands of pages to go off to adapt. I’ve got a couple hundred that I’m really focused on, and in those pages of Fire & Blood, there are a lot of clues. It kind of turns into doing Napoleon or doing Alexander the Great or doing some great historical figure where we know a lot about the guy.
“We know where he was, we know who he conquered, we know who lived, and we know who died. That all becomes the plot, and then it becomes my job to go, but what did it mean thematically? How did it feel? What were the emotions when this person died and this person lived? We don’t have the context. We don’t know what anybody said.”
One of the animated shows, Ten Thousand Ships is a prequel that is reportedly set 1,000 years before the events of Game of Thrones. It would follow Princess Nymeria, an ancestor of House Martell. Now we just have to wait for him to finish the next book…
