Choosing university accommodation, especially as a fresher, can be a daunting task. There’s so much to consider – location, costs, facilities, etc. I’ve been there – we’ve all been there.

However, if you’re joining UCL this year or next, use this guide to help in your choices as you navigate life at uni.

So, here’s a list with the basic information about all the UCL accommodation options available to help you make the most well-informed choice you can. 

Astor College

Astor College, in Zone A, Band 1, is a lush and brand new accommodation entirely for undergraduates.

It has accessible accommodation available, and is completely self-catered. In it, there are 185 single rooms, 82 single ensuites, three twin rooms, 12 duplex ensuites, and six studios.

The least expensive option at Astor College is a Twin Single, at £205.59 per week, with the most expensive being a Large Studio Single at £433.09 per week. 

Facilities include a communal kitchen, a cinema room, common room, computer room, games tables, laundry room, lifts, outside space, printing facilities, study areas, and post facilities. 

Security is 24/7 through the SafeZone app, with reception staff enforcing security during the week. 

The closest tube station is Goodge Street, with UCL Bloomsbury Campus being an eight minute walk away. However, if you’re studying at UCL East, it’s 42 minutes by tube. 

John Dodgson House

John Dodgson House, in Zone A, Band 2, is also for undergraduates.

This accommodation is self-catered, with accessible options available for students with restricted mobility.

It has two single rooms and 205 ensuites available, with the lowest fees being £276.71 per week for a single, and the highest fees being £340.06 for a Single Ensuite or Accessible Single Ensuite. 

Facilities include a communal kitchen, bike storage, a common room, computer room, laundry room, lifts, post and printing facilities, and a TV room. 

Security is also 24/7 through the SafeZone app, with reception staff operating during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security staff from 7pm to 8am. 

The closest tube stations are Euston and King’s Cross, with UCL Bloomsbury Campus only a 14 minute walk away and UCL East 42 minutes by tube. 

Ian Baker House

Ian Baker House is for undergraduates, with self-catered rooms, 84 of which are singles and six of which are ensuites.

Located in Zone A, Band 3, it has communal kitchens and a reception which is nearby at Ramsay Hall.

The accommodation has a bike storage, a common room, computer room, games tables, laundry room, music room, outside space, post and printing facilities, study areas, a TV room, and vending machines, all shared with Ramsay Hall.

Regarding rooms, the cheapest option would be a Large Single at £281.12 per week, and the highest cost would be a Single Ensuite at £321.23 per week. Ian Baker also has accessible room options too!

Security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is also offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations are Great Portland Street and Goodge Street. UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus is a five minute walk away, and UCL East is about an hour by tube.  

Frances Gardner House

Frances Gardner House is for undergraduates only, with 214 ensuite self-catered rooms. Located in Zone A, Band 4, the Double Ensuite option is £407.40 per week and the Single Ensuite is £321.23 per week.

Facilities include accessible access, bike storage, laundry room, lifts, and outside space.

Accessed through Langton Close, there is also a common room, computer room, games tables, laundry room, post and printing facilities, reception, study areas, and TV room. 

Security includes reception staff on Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays, as well as roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations are Russell Square, Chancery Lane, Angel, and Farringdon.

UCL’s Bloomsbury campus is a 26 minute walk away or 21 minutes by tube, and UCL East is 48 minutes by tube, or 75 minutes by bus. 

James Lighthill House

One of UCL’s lesser know accommodations, James Lighthill House is an undergraduate halls near King’s Cross.

It has 205 single ensuites and one studio available for rent. Rooms are self-catered, and the building is located in Zone A, Band 3. The price for a Large Single Studio is £372.89 per week, with a Single Ensuite being £321.23 per week.

Building facilities include bike storage, a common room, computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, outside space, post and printing facilities, a reception, and a TV room.

Security includes reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is also offered through the SafeZone app. 

King’s Cross and St Pancras International are very close to James Lighthill, with the UCL Bloomsbury Campus being a 28 minute walk and UCL East a 45 minute tube ride. 

John Adams Hall

John Adams Hall can be found on a street looking eerily similar to Harry Potter’s Grimauld Place.

However, let’s get onto the important stuff.

This accommodation is for undergraduates with 102 single rooms, two twin rooms, and 49 ensuites. It is self-catered accommodation located in Zone A, Band 3.

A Large Single costs £281.12 per week, a Large Single Ensuite £343, a Single £255, a Single Ensuite £321.23, a Small Single £231.77, and a Twin Single £172.13. We told you this guide would be detailed!

Facilities include a common room, computer room, games tables, laundry room, outside space, post and printing facilities, a reception, and a TV room.

Similarly to other accommodations, the site’s security includes reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app, as with other halls.

The closest tube stations include Euston, Euston Square, and Warren Street. John Adams is also only a six minute walk from the UCL Bloomsbury Campus, but takes 47 minutes by tube to get to UCL East.

Schafer House

Schafer House is for undergraduates, with self-catered accommodation that includes accessible options for students with restricted mobility.

The capacity has 365 single rooms, located in Zone A, Band 3, with the cheapest room being a Small Single at £231.77 per week. However, if you end up in a Large Single or Accessible Large Single, these will cost £281.12 per week. 

I’m sure you won’t be surprised by now but facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a common room, a computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, outside space, post and printing facilities, a reception, study areas, a TV room, and vending machines. 

There are reception staff present during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Euston, Euston Square, and Warren Street. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is an eight minute walk away, and UCL East is 48 minutes by tube. 

Arthur Tattersall House

Arthur Tattersall House is for undergraduates and postgraduates, with 60 single rooms, 56 twin rooms, and one flat (postgraduates only) available in Zone A, Band 4.

All rooms are self-catered. The One Bedroom Flat is open for postgraduates at £421.68 per week, and the Twin Single, the cheapest option, is £159.60 per week. 

Facilities include a laundry room, post facilities, and a reception. Staff are available at the reception during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. As per usual, 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Euston, Euston Square, Russell Square, Goodge Street, and Warren Street. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is a two minute walk away, so this accom is effectively a stone’s throw away, ideal for 9ams. However, UCL East is 45 minute ride away by tube. 

Campbell House

Okay, so we have East and West. Let’s break down the differences.

Campbell House East

Campbell House East is all self-catered singles accommodation for both undergraduates and postgraduates, located in Zone A, Band 4.

It has 97 single rooms and eight twin rooms available for undergraduates, and there’s one flat available for postgraduates.

The least expensive option for rooming in Campbell East would be the Twin Single for £159.60 a week, with the price going up for a flat at £421.68 a week.

Facilities include a common room, games tables, laundry room, outside space, post and printing facilities, reception, and TV room.

As with Arthur Tattersall, security includes reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Euston, Euston Square, and Warren Street, so you’re super close to uni again here! It’s only a six minute walk to Bloomsbury Campus, but UCL East is 47 minutes away by tube.

Campbell House West

Campbell House West is singles, undergraduate-only accommodation, all of which is self-catered in Zone A, Band 4.

The capacity includes 47 single rooms and 13 twin rooms. A Large Single here costs £238.28 per week, whereas a cheaper Twin Single is £159.60 a week. 

Facilities are shared with Campbell House East, and include a common room, games tables, laundry room, post facilities, reception, and a TV room. However, if you’re wanting to catch some rays, outside space is also available!

Security is the same as Campbell House East with reception staff being on-site during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security hanging about from 7pm to8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Euston, Euston Square, and Warren Street. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is a six minute walk away, and UCL East is 47 minutes by tube. 

John Tovell House

John Tovell House is for undergraduates only in Zone A, Band F, and includes self-catered singles accommodation.

There are 41 single rooms available, with a Large Single costing £238.28 per week, and a Small Single priced at £186.90 per week. 

Facilities include a kitchen, laundry room, outside space, post facilities, and a reception.

I’m sure you’re seeing a pattern now but there are reception staff available during the week and on Saturdays, with roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Russell Square, Goodge Street, Warren Street, Euston Square, and Great Portland Street.

UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus is a two minute walk away so you can roll out of bed and go straight to lectures. However, unsurprisingly, it takes a while to get to UCL East which is 45 minutes away by tube. 

Langton Close

Langton Close includes 267 single rooms and two postgraduate flats. Located in Zone A, Band 4, all rooms are self-catered. The flat is £421.68 per week, with a Small Single priced at £186.90 being the cheapest option. 

Facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a common room, a computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, outside space, post and printing facilities, a reception, study areas, and a TV room.

Security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Russell Square, King’s Cross, and Farringdon. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is a 26 minute walk away or a 21 minute tube/bus ride away. UCL East is 45 minutes by tube, or 75 minutes by bus. 

Ramsay Hall

Ramsay Hall is fully catered and only for undergraduates, as well as being suitable for under 18s. Great for international students and some Scots who attend uni before hitting adulthood.

Located in Zone A, Band 4, it has 457 single rooms, seven twin rooms, and two studios. A Large Single Catered goes for £326.76 per week, a Studio Catered for £420.29, a Single Catered for £299.67, and a Twin Catered for £247.94. 

Facilities include bike storage, a common room, a computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, a music room, outside space, post and printing facilities, a reception, study areas, a library, a TV room, and vending machines. However, a number of these are shared with Ian Baker House. 

Security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest tube stations include Great Portland Street, Goodge Street, Warren Street, Euston Square, and Russell Square. It’s only a short five minute stroll to UCL’s Bloomsbury Campus, whereas UCL East is an hour away by tube, or 87 minutes by bus. 

New Hall

I mean it’s in the name but New Hall is one of UCL’s more modern accommodations.

This residence provides undergraduate-only singles accommodation that is totally self-catered, providing 231 ensuites and 114 studios located in Zone B, Band 2. A Large Double Studio costs £365.50 per week, a Single Ensuite £308.98, and a Small Double Studio £328.58. 

Facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a common room, a computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, outside space, post and printing facilities, reception, study areas, and a TV room. 

As with some other accommodations, there is CCTV, as well as reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest stations are Holloway Road, Drayton Park, Caledonian Road and Barnsbury, and Kentish Town. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is 25 minutes away by tube, with UCL East being 48 minutes by tube or 80 minutes by bus. 

Not the most ideal accom if you’re hoping to get up at 8:45 for a 9am.

Goldsmid House

Another modern girly, here we have Goldsmid House.

Providing undergraduate-only singles accommodation, this residence has 153 ensuite catered rooms located in Zone B, Band 3. A Small Double Single Ensuite here costs £285.67 per week. 

Facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a kitchen, a laundry room, lifts, outside space, post and printing facilities, reception, and Wi-Fi. 

Security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest stations include Victoria, Pimlico, and Sloane Square, meaning you’ve got a super central location.

UCL Bloomsbury Campus is 17 minutes away by tube, and UCL East is 50 minutes away by tube. 

Ifor Evans Hall

One of the not so popular halls, Ifor Evans hall is located in Zone B, Band 4, and provides singles and family accommodation for both undergraduates and postgraduates.

The capacity includes 242 catered single rooms for undergraduates. Five flats and one self-catered studio are available for families. 

A One Bedroom Double Flat costs £347.62 per week, and is the most expensive option. A Single Studio, on the other hand, is cheaper at £250.74 per week, whilst a Single Catered is an even better price at £238.28. 

Facilities include bike storage, a common room, a computer room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, a music room (something we haven’t seen yet on this list), outside space, post and printing facilities, reception, study areas, tennis courts (obsessed!), a TV room, and vending machines. 

Security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest stations include Kentish Town West, Chalk Farm, Kentish Town, Mornington Crescent, and Caledonian Road. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is 30 minutes away by tube, and UCL East is 39 minutes by tube. 

One Pool Street

UCL East girlies, this one is for you!

Located in Zone C, Band 1, One Pool Street provides self-catered singles accommodation for undergraduates only, including accessible accommodation for students with restricted mobility.

There are 552 single rooms are available for rent, with a Single Ensuite costing £296.24 per week, and an Accessible Small Double Large Single Ensuite costing £319.06 per week. 

Facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a common room, games tables, a kitchen, a laundry room, lifts, a music room, outside space, post and printing facilities, reception, and study areas. 

As our girl Cilla Black would say, “surprise, surprise” because security includes CCTV, reception staff during the week and on Saturdays, and roaming security from 7pm to 8am. 24/7 security support is offered through the SafeZone app. 

The closest stations include Stratford, Stratford International, and Hackney Wick. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is 40 minutes by tube, whilst UCL East is a five minute walk. 

Intercollegiate Halls, run by the University of London, are another option for UCL students

Right, next we have Intercollegiate Halls which run by the University of London.

These provide an alternative to UCL-run residences, allowing residents to meet people from other universities, and they’re a great way to make friends and grow your uni circle!

Intercollegiate Halls are available to UCL students and those attending any college of the University of London, of which there are 17. 

College Hall

College Hall provides undergraduate-only singles accommodation that is catered and entirely managed by the University of London. Fees include a Single Ensuite Catered at £361.32 per week, an Accessible Single Ensuite Catered at £361.32 per week, a Double Ensuite Catered at £423.93 per week, and Single Catered at £313.22 per week. 

Facilities include accessible access, a pantry kitchen, bike storage, a cinema room (fancy!), a common room, games tables, a laundry room, a music room, outside space, a post, vending machines, and reception. 

Security includes CCTV and 24/7 support.

The closest tube stations include Russell Square, Goodge Street, Great Portland Street, Euston Square, and Euston. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is a  five minute walk, with UCL East 45 minutes away by tube. 

Connaught Hall

Connaught Hall offers undergraduate-only, catered, singles accommodation managed by the University of London.

Many different room options are available with the least expensive option being a Single Catered at £295.84 or a refurbished Single Catered room at £308.89 per week. A larger, but more expensive, option is the Double Ensuite Catered at £401.98 per week. 

Facilities include bike storage, a common room, laundry room, lifts, a music room, outside space, post facilities, a pantry kitchen, and reception. 

Security includes CCTV, a night porter, and 24/7 support.

The closest tube stations include Russell Square, Warren Street, Euston Square, Great Portland Street, and Euston. Connaught Hall is so close to Bloomsbury Campus that you could literally sprint there in 30 seconds. However, it is approximately 40 minutes by tube to UCL East. 

International Hall

International Hall provides undergraduate-only, catered, singles accommodation. A Single Catered is priced at £286.48 per week, whilst a Double Studio rests at £341.67 per week. Weekday breakfast, weekday evening meals, and weekend meals are provided in the catering. 

The building’s facilities include accessible access, bike storage, a cinema room, a common room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, a music room with a piano, outside space, post facilities, reception, a squash court, study areas, and vending machines. 

Security includes CCTV and 24/7 support.

The closest stations include Russell Square, Great Portland Street, Warren Street, Euston Square, King’s Cross and Euston. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is an 18 minute walk away, or 16 minutes by bus. UCL East is 87 minutes via the tube, or 80 minutes by bus. 

Garden Halls

Last but not least is Garden Halls, perhaps the fanciest student accommodation out of this list. Providing undergraduates and postgraduates with self-catered and catered single options, it is entirely managed by the University of London. Fees differ depending on the rooms chosen out of the 10 options available. However, the prices range from a Single Standard Superior at £304.19 per week to £418.80 per week for a Large Single Ensuite Catered Plus. 

Facilities include accessible access, Amazon lockers, bike storage, a cinema room, a common room, games tables, a laundry room, lifts, a music room, outside space, post facilities, reception, study areas, tennis courts, and vending machines. 

Security includes CCTV, reception staff from 8am to 7pm, and reception security from 7pm to 8am. 

The closest tube stations include King’s Cross, Euston, Euston Square, and Russell Square. UCL Bloomsbury Campus is a 10 minute walk, with UCL East being 43 minutes away by tube.
