Marvel executive admits to planting fake Deadpool and Wolverine leaks to protect cameos

We’re all excited to finally find out which famous actors will be making cameos in the new Deadpool and Wolverine film, but some of our suspicions might have actually been deliberate leaks?!

The film’s executive producer had admitted that there could have possibly been some deliberate fake leaks planted on the internet and in-person in order to throw fans off the scent. Sneaky!

In an interview with GamesRadar+, the film’s executive producer Wendy Jacobson admitted there “may or may not have been some subterfuge and misdirections on the internet or in-person in order to protect the secrecy.”

She continued: “I can neither confirm nor deny any cameos in this film but I will say, in terms of characters that may or may not appear, it was always important to us that nothing in this movie feels like a gimmick. Anyone showing up has a crucial story purpose or a beginning, middle, and end as a character arc. It was definitely a collaborative process of seeing who fit in and who didn’t.”

Okay, but can you imagine if Lady Deadpool was revealed to be Taylor Swift herself? I think we would all collectively lose our minds.

Director Shawn Levy also knew leaks about cameos would happen, especially as they decided to film Deadpool and Wolverine on location. He explained to Digital Spy: “We made a choice early on. The traditional way to make one of these huge movies is largely on sound stages with green screens or LEDs or Volume work and mocap. We said no to that. Before we started, we said no.

“This is Deadpool and Wolverine. These are real-world anti-heroes. They don’t come from space. They aren’t magic. They aren’t digital. They’re analogue. And so we shot the movie with a real reliance on analogue real locations, real sets that we built at scale. We knew images would leak, and we thought that the trade-off was worth it because what you get now is a movie that feels raw and authentic in the way I think fans want Deadpool and Wolverine.”

However, this is Marvel so they obviously had a s security plan in place so the biggest surprises wouldn’t leak, as Wendy revealed: “Every time we were going out on location, they knew which ones were the most riskiest, where leaks would likely occur, and ones that we could maybe control more than others. And I wouldn’t have changed a thing.

“Some of our biggest action sequences or biggest spoilers, in particular one, we made sure to do on the back lot at Pinewood that we totally controlled. Unfortunately there’s just not enough space for us to do everything on the studio, and if you need woods or the quarry where we shot what was leaked, you’ve got to go out in the real world.” Thank god we don’t have long to wait to find out who the cameos really feature!
