Ashton Kutcher has been on the receiving end of increasing backlash after character letters he and Mila Kunis had written for their former That ’70s co-star Danny Masterson – who has now been sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for raping two women in 2003 – went public on Sunday. In the letters dated 27 July 2023, Ashton described Danny – who the victims testified had drugged and violently raped them at his house while at the height of his fame – as a man who treated people “with decency, equality, and generosity”. He has since apologised.

But, as is the way of human intrigue, the Twitter timeline has been subsequently looking back over Ashton’s own on-screen career and clips from the actor’s past have resurfaced— involving Mila Kunis’ first kiss, Hilary Duff’s 18th birthday, and Demi Moore’s sobriety relapse. So, as more footage comes to light, here’s every Ashton Kutcher controversy that’s re-emerged since his support of Danny Masterson was revealed:

Back in 2002 in an interview with Rosie O’Donnell, Mila admitted Danny bet Ashton to “use tongue” when they kissed on camera for a scene in That ’70s Show. It was her first kiss. She was 14 and he was 19: “I’ve never kissed a guy. Ashton’s attractive, and I was a 14-year-old little girl and I was extremely scared for my life,” Mila said. “He was very nice about it. He was like, ‘Don’t worry about it.’ Then Danny goes to him and goes, ‘Dude, I’ll give you $10 if you French kiss her…I didn’t let him, but I think he tried.”

Ashton added of the incident: “They were like, ‘You guys are going to be making out in this scene.’ And I’m thinking wait, this is slightly illegal…You’re kissing on the show, we’re boyfriend and girlfriend. You would use tongue. Danny bet me like 20 bucks I wouldn’t do it.”

Ashton was married to Demi Moore from 2005 to 2013 and when she released her memoir, Inside Out, in 2019 she discussed the details of their relationship. Demi, who had been sober for 20 years at the time, claimed Ashton encouraged her to drink again: “Ashton was enjoying a glass of good red wine when he said, ‘I don’t know if alcoholism is a real thing — I think it’s all about moderation,'” she wrote. “I wanted to be that girl. The girl who could have a glass of wine at dinner, or do a tequila shot at a party. In my mind, Ashton wanted that, too.”

Demi also revealed Ashton had allegedly angled to have threesomes as part of their marriage. “I put him first,” she wrote. “So when he expressed his fantasy of bringing a third person into our bed, I didn’t say no. I wanted to show him how great and fun I could be…There was two different people we opened our relationship to, and they didn’t have bad intentions … They were good people, but it was still a mistake.”

She also added she blamed herself for Ashton’s cheating at Danny Masterton’s stag do (which she found out about via Google Alert) “because we had brought in a third party…that blurred the lines and, to some extent, justified what he’d done.”
