She’s been on 1000-lb Sisters for years, but Misty isn’t actually related to Tammy and Amy?!
This cast is full of surprises
If you’ve been watching 1000-lb Sisters since the early seasons, Misty Wentworth probably feels like a familiar, comforting presence.
She’s calm, supportive, and often the voice of reason when family drama starts bubbling over.
But despite appearing alongside Amy Slaton, Tammy Slaton, Amanda Halterman, and Chris Combs for years, people are only now realising something surprising… Misty’s connection to the family isn’t as straightforward as it seems.
A moment from 1000-lb Sisters has everyone rethinking what they thought they knew, and it turns out the truth is actually pretty emotional.

Misty Slaton has been part of the 1000-lb Sisters universe for a long time, even if she’s never chased the spotlight like Amy or Tammy.
She’s appeared in multiple seasons, offering support during weigh-ins, surgeries, and some of the family’s toughest moments.
Misty also shared her own weight-loss journey on the show, including undergoing bariatric surgery.
While her storyline was quieter, it was still impactful, especially for those who appreciated seeing progress without constant chaos.
Her calm demeanour often balanced out the more explosive family dynamics, making her a fan favourite in a low-key, ride-or-die kind of way.
She’s still on the show to this day, and is also on Cameo like the other 1000-lb Sisters stars!
She isn’t actually related to Amy and Tammy

Here’s where things get interesting. In a recent resurfaced clip ahead of her birthday, Misty explained that Amy and Tammy’s father adopted her, but she didn’t clarify whether it was ever a legal adoption. Even more surprising? She revealed that he isn’t biologically related to any of them.
According to Misty, she started working for him at just 13 years old, helping out with odd jobs on his farm. With little structure at home, she simply… stayed.
Over time, Chris and Amanda began coming around, followed by Amy and Tammy, and eventually, none of them left. As Misty put it perfectly: “We adopted each other.”
So while Misty may not share blood with the Slaton siblings, the bond they formed is very real.
It’s a chosen family situation, messy, imperfect, and deeply emotional. And honestly? That makes their connection even more meaningful. On 1000-lb Sisters, family has never just been about biology, it’s about who shows up, sticks around, and grows together.
