Erm, Susan Boyle just replied to Timothée Chalamet and it turns out the feeling’s mutual?!
My heart is melting
This is literally the most wholesome thing to happen all year, and it was absolutely not on anyone’s 2025 bingo card.
Timothée Chalamet is in full promo mode for his new film Marty Supreme, doing the usual chat-show rounds, talking Oscars, ping-pong and fashion, and then suddenly he’s talking about… Susan Boyle.
Yes, that Susan Boyle. Britain’s Got Talent icon, viral audition, I Dreamed a Dream on loop in 2009.
Now she’s seen what he said, she’s responded publicly, and the whole exchange is pure gold.
What did Timothée say about Susan?

While doing UK promo, Timothée was asked by the BBC to name his favourite British people. He rattled off Lewis Hamilton, David and Victoria Beckham and rapper Fakemink… and then casually dropped Susan Boyle into the same list.
He doubled down too. This wasn’t a throwaway joke. Timothée explained that Susan “dreamt big” and even “dreamt bigger than all of us,” talking specifically about her Britain’s Got Talent audition where she belted “I Dreamed a Dream” and stunned the judges and the crowd.
He said he remembers watching it “like it was yesterday” and called that clip a defining internet moment.
For context, Timmy would’ve been about 14 when Susan walked out on that stage in 2009, so he’s very much speaking as someone who grew up on that viral moment.
And just to underline the scale of what he’s praising. Susan went from small-town Scotland to global fame, 10-million-selling debut album and consecutive No.1 records off the back of that audition.
In Timothée’s personal British Hall of Fame, Susan Boyle is right up there with the Beckhams.
So yep, that’s officially a thing now. He literally called her “one of the greatest living Brits,” and we’re here for it.
Susan replied, and it’s so cute

Susan has seen the clips and articles, and she absolutely delivered in her response. On Instagram, she said she was “flattered” and described reading his comments as “so incredibly touching.”
She reflected on those wild early BGT days, saying they were “quite something,” and that knowing the moment still means so much to people all these years later genuinely humbles her.
She talked about how everyone starts “with a dream and a bit of hope” and encouraged fans to “dream big,” mirroring the way Timothée praised her for doing exactly that, per The Independent.
Susan also turned the kindness right back on him, wishing Timothée every success as he continues to “dream [his] own dream,” which was a sweet little nod to the song that made her famous and to his current awards buzz for Marty Supreme.
It’s extra emotional when you remember she’s been recovering from a stroke in 2022 that temporarily affected her ability to speak and sing, and has only recently teased new music from the studio.
