Kelsey Grammer is a dad of eight at 70, a decade on from *that* bitter Real Housewives divorce
Camille defended the multi-million dollar settlement
At an age when many people are thinking about slowing down, kicking back and maybe trying the odd hobby (pickleball, anyone?), Kelsey Grammer is doing something entirely different.
He’s just welcomed his eighth child. Yes, you read that correctly. At 70 years old. Let that sink in for a moment.
This isn’t just another baby-announcement story either, it comes over a decade after his headline-making split from Camille Grammer and the whirlwind of publicity that surrounded their time on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Kelsey is a dad of eight at 70 years old
Congratulations are in order because Kelsey and his wife, Kayte Walsh, 46, have welcomed a baby boy named Christopher.
He revealed on the October 27 episode of the Pod Meets World podcast that Christopher joined their family just three days prior to the taping, per People.
This marks Kelsey’s fourth child with Kayte, and his eighth overall.
With Kayte, Kelsey has Faith, 12, Gabriel, 10, James, 8, and now Christopher.
He’s also dad to Spencer, 41, with first wife Doreen Alderman, Greer,33, with ex-Barrie Buckner, Mason, 23, and Jude, 20, with Camille.
In the past, Kelsey has admitted that he’s been “playing catch-up” with his older kids. He acknowledged that for a while, he struggled to show up in the way he felt he should.
But now, with the younger brood, he’s saying he’s more “clear about how there are certain expectations … I tell them … ‘What’s your job in life? Showing up.'”
He and Camille had a messy divorce
Now, about that decades-old split.
Kelsey and Camille were married for 13 years, from 1997 to their separation around 2010 and finalised their divorce in February 2011.
The divorce settlement became a public talking point. Camille landed approximately $30 million, reported People.
When it came to that hefty sum, she defended the settlement and said: “I just didn’t sit back, buying fancy clothes and shoving bonbons in my face. I mean, I worked hard.”
During the season nine reunion of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she also defended her decision to keep the last name “Grammer” for the sake of the children.
But there was sniping. During that eruption at the reunion, she fired back at co-stars, reference was made to “What is the real reason you won’t give up Grammer?” and she responded that it came down to the kids. Plain and simple!
So while the marriage had its joys, namely Mason and Jude, the split didn’t fade quietly into the night.
Both the settlement and the public commentary kept the story alive in the reality TV world. Even as recently as 2021, Camille was still being asked about Kelsey. Appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she responded “nothing” when asked what she “misses about her marriage to Kelsey.”
