It’s been one year since Kourtney Kardashian came out as autosexual on her lifestyle website, Poosh, but what on earth does it actually mean?
And no, it definitely doesn’t involve an attraction for vehicles.
The original article stated that most people are a little bit autosexual, with therapist Casey Tanner defining autosexuality as ““a trait wherein one is turned on by engaging in their own eroticism.
“A prime example of this is simply women in general. While it may not be true for everyone, we generally feel more sexual and turned on when we feel we ourselves are sexy. But it’s not just about the ladies.”
The therapist explained that behaviours which could point towards someone being autosexual include “washing yourself lovingly in the bath and genuinely enjoying your body.”
It adds: “It could mean dancing in the mirror in a cute outfit. If feeling sexy independent of someone else has ever turned you on, that’s autosexuality, and it’s totally normal.”
The term autosexual is officially defined as “a term for sexual attraction to oneself, especially a preference for masturbation over sexual intercourse.”
Certified sex coach, Lucy Rowett, also explained more about autosexuality and it seems that Kourtney Kardashian isn’t the only one who would identify with the term.
She explained: “With autosexuality, you get more aroused looking at or thinking about yourself during sex [than a partner], you dream or fantasize about yourself, and generally have higher sexual desire for yourself than other people.”
So no, autosexuality has nothing to do with automobiles, but it does everything to do with quite literally living yourself.
