Exclusive: Drag Race’s Bimini on the real reason they went on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins
They used certain coping mechanisms to get through it
RuPaul’s Drag Race star Bimini has been competing on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins for weeks, and they’ve officially made it to the end. They’re super proud of herself and sat down with Reality Shrine to reveal the real reason why they went on the gruelling show.
The queen decided to turn up in a pink tracksuit on purpose as she knew “people would underestimate them” but that there was “no way they’d give up until they tell them to go.” Basically, they felt as though being part of the LGBTQ+ community meant they’d be judged.
Bimini exclusively told Reality Shrine: “As someone that’s part of the LGBTQ community, I thought people might see me as weaker or be a nightmare. I wanted to prove that we’re resilient because, as a community, we’ve been through so much.”
Describing themselves as someone that has “grit,” Bimini decided to “completely go out of her comfort zone” as they were going through a “time in her life where they need to go through something like that,” having recently gone through a change in management.
“We live in a world not created for queerness, and to be yourself takes a lot of guts. I’ve been bullied, I’ve gone through hardships, and this was different from Drag Race, which is more creative. This was more mental and physical, and the mental is what you need,” Bimini said.
They continued: “I was diagnosed with ADHD, which means that extreme circumstances allowed me to focus. When we done the diving episode, in my head I was Lara Croft doing box breathing to heat me up. Anything with violence is where I struggled the most.”
They said: “Physical violence takes me back to school and how kids were with each other, I don’t like people getting bullied. I don’t agree with violence or with institutions that create war and send people to fight. As for the show, I’m proud of myself for how far I got.”
“I stuck to my beliefs. I forgot the cameras were there and was on edge the whole time. I think I showered twice the whole time because I was worried the DS staff would call me, but I’d built a good rapport with them as they saw I wasn’t giving up easy,” Bimini continued.
