Drag Race star releases bold statement amid backlash over Ginger Minj’s All Stars win
'People need to remember this is a TV show'
RuPaul’s Drag Race star Mayhem Miller has released a statement amid backlash that fellow queen Ginger Minj is getting after her All Stars win. She’s reminding people it’s a TV show and even went on to say that their “opinions mean nothing” at the end of the day.
Mayhem Miller was a contestant on season 10 and All Stars five, while Ginger Minj has competed on season seven, All Stars two, and All Stars six, before winning the tenth season recently. She’s got loads of hate for alleged favouritism, and loads of queens aren’t happy.
Many now believe that all the queens should be saying the same thing, as Mayhem states that people should “make YOUR winner feel like a winner even if they don’t win, and you can do that without tearing down someone else.”
There’s a clear divide in the fandom, with many convinced there was “clear favouritism in Ginger Minj’s lip sync,” while others feel that she showed enough talent throughout the competition to have had a well-deserved win by the end of the series.
One person said: “Ginger did really well and did not ask for any favouritism.. be mad at the producers and show instead! My favourites didn’t win and that’s okay.. I still hope she can enjoy her reign,” while another wrote: “Ginger is a great queen and a worthy winner!”
Mayhem and Ginger Minj done their own iconic lip sync to Lizzo’s Phone four years ago, on All Stars season six, which many still remember as the best lip sync of all time. Ginger Minj won that time, and Mayhem showed zero saltiness towards the result.
The judges felt that Ginger “embraced the song’s energy and took possession of it” and was the clear winner, taking home $30K. Mayhem, however, has not yet won any season of Drag Race, yet is now being praised for being so kind to Ginger Minj.
