So, did Kim Kardashian actually steal a $10M Birkin bag in that wild video?!
A video appears to show Kim taking a bag that was up for auction
Right, so a woman that looks like Kim Kardashian, AKA the woman worth $1.7 billion, has been seen stealing a Birkin bag worth $10 million from a shop display. She appears to be wearing the exact same outfit and hairstyle as Kim did during her trip to Paris.
As it turns out, that video is AI-generated and definitely not Kim. The bag itself, which was once worn by Jane Birkin, was won in an auction for $10 million in Paris by a Japanese businessman. And it was quite iconic, because the bag is the first ever of the brand.
There were nine determined collectors trying to get their hands on the bag, and literally none of them included Kim, and apparently the bidding war literally went on for a full ten minutes. It was super intense… So everyone was baffled when they saw that AI video!
People are now convinced that, with all the billions in Kim’s bank account, she bought the bag for $10 million. Even her friends were absolutely certain that she was able to get her hands on the bag, especially as she’d left loads of hints about the Birkin accessory.
Kim shared the AI video herself, which appeared to show a model breaking into the glass holding the bag behind it, and then showed everyone her texts from friends asking if she’d actually bought it. One person asked: “Kim for real did you buy the original Birkin???”
Factually though, Kim was just having a laugh, because the bag really went to Valuence Japan, Inc., in Minato-ku, Tokyo, who placed their bid through Maiko Ichikawa, Country Head of Sotheby’s Japan – and it’s all because the bag is just so iconic.
Jane Birkin told told Vogue in 2012 how she got the idea: “On this airplane journey, when everything fell out of whatever bag I had, the man next to me said, ‘you should have one with pockets.’ I said, ‘the day Hermès makes one with pockets I will have that.’”
