The Bachelor’s Rachael Kirkconnell has detailed why Matt James decided to dump her in private, and post a break-up announcement just two hours later. And it’s all because of one dinner spot.
In perhaps one of the craziest The Bachelor splits of the century, Rachael and former show lead, Matt James, randomly called it quits. They won the show together but the real world caused problems.
The Bachelor’s Rachael was totally ‘blindsided’
Rachael is admitting she was “blindsided” by her split with Matt. The two first met on The Bachelor in 2020, and ended up winning, but even four years later, he wasn’t ready to make her his wife yet.
She told the Call Her Daddy podcast that she is now doing okay after the break-up, which was announced on Instagram by Matt literally two hours after he’d dumped her in person – and she hadn’t expected it.
“I’m still trying to process it. I’m still in total shock, so then knowing like the whole world is seeing this. I’m like, ‘This is so crazy. I can’t even wrap my mind around this right now,’” Rachael added.
She was dumped after a bad dinner date
Rachael has opened up about what led to being dumped. She’d been researching where to go for dinner for an hour, and was on her period, which made her more stressed than she’d usually be.
The dinner place she’d picked didn’t end up being good at all, and was actually “disappointing”. She admits she’d felt pressure to always pick a decent food place because Matt filmed it for his videos.
Anyway, they went home and had a bit of an argument about the whole thing. She said: “So we get there and I just walk off and go do my own thing for a second. So we kinda just get there and split up for a bit.”
Rachael added, “It was just one of those things where I’m tired, cranky, emotional on my period, feeling terrible. So then I started tearing up at dinner two tears, one, two, we’re done. We went home.”
When they got back to the hotel, Rachael claims Matt had told her, “That was like, there was no reason for you to get upset like that,” and the next day, he told her she’d “find a guy that loves her for her.”
Rachael vows to never get back with Matt
Rachael is vowing to never go back to her ex. She said, “I don’t think I can, which is sad. I don’t think I can ‘cause I think when someone says those things that he said, you know, ‘I don’t think you’re my person.’”
“‘I don’t see us getting married,’ I think that’s when you have to call it quits, and then yeah. Just the way that he handled all of this and this post and everything, like I forgive him,” she continued.
Rachael then said: “But I just don’t think I can be with someone that, I felt like he disrespected me at the end of the day doing that, so yeah. It’s just one of those things where you have to stand up for yourself.”
