Outlast’s Tonia hit by ‘scary’ medical emergency after blacking out during survival series

Spoilers: Outlast contestant Tonia was whisked away in a medical emergency after blacking out. She lasted more than two weeks on the gruelling survival series, produced by actor Jason Bateman.

Mental health therapist Tonia is one of 16 Netflix contestants who braved Alaska for a survival series. The self-proclaimed animal whisperer made it to 15 days until she was affected by medical conditions.

Outlast star warned of health

Before she passed out, the Netflix star ate a snail and seafood soup made by Tre, which she felt sick from. In the middle of the night, she felt sick at 3am and woke him up, saying she didn’t feel great.

Tonia felt a “weird feeling” in her head and wanted to be checked by a medic, as Tre giving her a blanket didn’t make her feel any better. She wanted to be evaluated but lost consciousness mid-conversation.

Tonia had to be medically evacuated after she blacked out. She’d spent 15 days in the Alaskan wilderness with teammate, Tre, helping him to start fires and survive with little to no food.

Tonia evacuated after blacking out

She can quickly track, kill, and butcher game, while mental toughness is ingrained in her. But during season 2 episode 5, she was hit with a medical emergency which sent her home early.

Tonia had not been feeling good, and therefore was placed in an ambulance. Due to extreme cold exposure, Tonia was transported to Petersburg Medical Center, where she was treated for hypothermia.

Alongside hypothermia, Tonia was also treated for hypoglycaemia (due to malnutrition), and dehydration. “This has forced her to exit the game,” the show informed at the end of episode 5.

She’s ‘sorry’ to leave Tre alone

Tonia feels “sorry” to leave Tre alone, admitting she never usually builds a bond with anyone. However, she now sees him as a family member, having gone through an incredibly unique experience.

Tre felt the same, saying he’d do anything she asked for, and she’d do the same. She recently wrote on Instagram, “Tre’ is the son I never had. He’s family forever. We talk frequently.”

She said they’ve “not yet had the opportunity to hang out in person.” Tre told her, “Don’t worry, 1st long weekend from work me and the pups are heading straight to ya. Love ya always Mama T!!”
