Though Netflix fans have come to know and love Matt Willis for his keen fashion sense and quick wit, the Love is Blind UK host’s career actually began in a hugely successful British boyband.
The first season of Love is Blind UK has been an overwhelming success with cheeky flirtation and arguably the hottest cast yet. The show’s hosts, married couple Emma and Matt Willis, are regular staples on British TV. While you might be aware of Emma’s illustrious hosting history, her hubby is just as talented.
His music career was one of legend
Matt Willis might be the adored host of Love is Blind UK, but true fans know that the dashing gent stepped into the public spotlight as the bassist and co-vocalist of Busted.
After failing to break into the UK’s music scene, James Bourne and Matt Willis formed their own band called The Termites in 2000. Soon enough, they were joined by Ki Fitzgerald and Owen Doyle but that lineup disintegrated just a year later in 2001.
Charlie Simpson and Tom Fletcher then signed on to the band, with the latter later told it would only be a trio. Some might know that Tom then went on to join McFly, another iconic British boyband.
Over the course of their relatively short-lived career, which spanned only four years, Busted released tracks like Year 3000, Crashed the Wedding, Thunderbirds are Go, Air Hostess, and What I Go to School For.
Though the band eventually capsized, largely due to Charlie Simpson, they have made several comebacks over the years including joining forces with the remnants of McFly.
They might be only a footnote in British music history, but mention their name to a UK native and we are willing to bet you’ll have a new friend.
Fans say Matt Willis is unrecognizable since his Busted days
After Matt Willis appeared on Netflix screens, many fans took to social media to share their shock at his “glow up” transformation. Similar energy was felt when Matt appeared on Gogglebox in 2022.
“Matt Willis’ glow-up needs to be studied because I still can’t believe what he looked like in Busted compared to now????” one person said, as another wrote, “Not me clocking that Matt Willis used to be in busted back in the day.”
Someone else said: “Why did it take me so long to clock that this Matt Willis is the Matt Willis from Busted?? I didn’t recognize him. The glow-up is really glowing.”
“Just wanna take a minute to appreciate Matt Willis. my childhood emo boyfriend,” another wrote.
Here’s to hoping for a sweet rendition of Air Hostess during the Love is Blind UK reunion.
