Deadliest Catch newbie, Jacob Hutchins, appears to be Jake Anderson’s replacement, fans believe. They say Jacob is being “thrown into conflict” after they watched Jake grow up “before their eyes”.
When Jake Anderson joined Deadliest Catch, viewers felt the show became all about his journey. The same seems to be happening with show newbie, Jacob, and fans aren’t happy about it.
Jacob Hutton joins Deadliest Catch
Jacob Hutchins joined Deadliest Catch as a deckhand on the F/V Wizard. He is now a captain and producer on the Discovery Channel show, under Rick Shelford on The F/V Aleutian Lady.
The reality TV star initially clashed with captain Keith Colburn on The Wizard. As a 33-year-old deckhand from Olympia, Jacob has one goal in his career: to run a ship of his own.
Hoping to become being the first Black crabbing captain on the Bering Sea, Jacob has received mixed reactions over his foray into crabbing and fishing, particularly after he clashed with his first captain.
Viewers ‘watched Jake grow up’
Jake Anderson had a similar role on Deadliest Catch to Jacob, as he made mistakes and became a pinnacle to the fishing series. However, many wish it wasn’t so focused on his journey.
One fan wrote, “I’ve always said that show became too much Jake. And it still is. Now it appears they are doing the same with Jacob,” while another said, “Love him or hate him, he gathers attention.”
Jake has recently bought a new boat, having had his much-loved boat ripped away from him due to a reported mistake by his business partner, and continues to appear on the show.
Fisherman is ‘thrown into conflict’
One fan wrote, “Does anyone else feel like Jacob is being forced on like Jake Anderson was back in the day? He has been fired from so many boats and now all of a sudden he is this hero on another boat.”
Another penned, “I think they wanted another Jake without all the steps. We watched Jake grow up literally before our eyes and make mistakes and grow above them.”
“Jacob is being thrown into the conflict and in training shit towards the end of Jake’s time on the Northwestern. I get what they’re doing, but Christ, Jacob isn’t likeable at all,” they added.
