The cast of Netflix’s Unlocked: A Jail Experiment were given the opportunity of a lifetime while behind bars. They were allowed six weeks to roam free out of their cells, instead of solitary confinement, to see if reoffending would decrease.
Real prisoners couldn’t believe their ears when a sheriff announced they would have no rules and no guards for six weeks. However, the Netflix show – filmed in a US prison one year ago – turns to chaos.
Unlocked: A Jail Experiment cast
Crooks
Real name: Daniel Thorr Gatlin
Crime: Drug trafficking
Crooks is a Mexican gang member who was arrested after the experiment, for trafficking drugs in large quantities into the US. This is despite being freed and showing gratitude to the sheriff.
In the late hours of January 4, 2024, Crooks was apprehended in Florida’s Martin County. He was allegedly nabbed after attempting to sell several pounds of cocaine to undercover police agents, CBS 12 reports.
True Story
Real name: Randy Randall
Crime: Domestic assault and drug possession
Randy Randall became the ‘leader’ of the unit during the experiment, which led to inmates turning against him. He admits he wanted to run the jail and has been in prison nine times.
He is still in jail, awaiting his trial. He continues to help others as a mentor.
Mason Abraham
Real name: Mason Abraham
Crime: Capital murder
Mason Abraham, 21, from Mississippi, was one of two men suspected of killing 32-year-old Broderick Bluford at The Ridge at Little Rock apartments on Leander Drive, in October 2022.
The victim died at an area hospital after being shot, police said. Abraham currently remains in prison serving his murder sentence.
AJ
Real name: Raymond Lovett
Crime: Capital murder and aggravated assault
AJ was sentenced to life in prison plus 15 years and is now serving time in the high-security Varner Unit. He was placed in solitary confinement on suicide watch after the lockdown.
From Arkansas, the 24-year-old was arrested for the shooting that took place at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Sherwood in 2022. He was found guilty of murder in December 2023.
Chauncey Young
Real name: Chauncey Young
Crime: Accused of first-degree violence, theft of goods, and aggravated robbery
During his time on the Netflix show, Chauncey, 20, often used his allotted free calls to contact his family, urging them to bail him out. He has been released on bond from prison and wears an ankle monitor.
The aspiring engineer – who felt he shouldn’t be in prison because of his ambition – currently faces an upcoming trial, having been accused of first-degree violence, theft of goods, and aggravated robbery.
Tiny
Real name: Krisna Piro Clarke
Crime: Aggravated robbery and first-degree battery

Tiny has since been released from prison and thanks the experiment for helping him get out. He said on the show, “It’s a big opportunity for me, I get to reconnect with my son.”
While in prison, he faced an altercation with True Story. Now, he’s still aiming to be the “best father he can be,” Tiny is “grateful” for the show and is now committing to staying active, alongside parenthood.
