Banged Up: Teens Behind Bars - Cast, staff, location and more!

Channel 4 has a brand new series kicking off on Monday, April 29th!

But Banged Up: Teens Behind Bars is going to be far from an easygoing watch…

The three-part series will see eight wayward British teens be sent to an American prison for a taste of one of the harshest reform systems in the world.

But who is participating in the programme and is it really real? Here’s everything you need to know about Banged Up: Teens Behind Bars.

Who are the teens taking part?

The teenagers taking part in the Behaviour Attitude Modification programme range in age and crimes already committed.

So far, confirmed teens include 15-year-olds Kallum, Red and Whitney; also 17-year-olds Jordan, Layla and Tunde.

Hugh Connell, a 16-year-old from Market Harborough in Leicestershire who was arrested for carrying a machete, will also feature on the show.

Korede Akintunde

Korede will also take part in the reform programme.

The 17-year-old from East London spoke to The Sun about his experience to show how much it has inspired him to change his ways.

After a life of petty crimes and drug deals that began at the age of fourteen, Korede was on a dangerous path as he quickly began to start selling more serious drugs including heroin and crack cocaine.

But speaking to the newspaper about his experience on the show, he said:

I’d never go back to my old ways. Hard work pays off and I know that now. I don’t need to steal a bike because I can buy one.

Looks like the programme worked then!

Where is the prison?

The teens are sent to Brevard County Jail, set in the rural swamplands of Florida which is one of the toughest maximum security prisons in the US.

At the prison, there are over 1,600 inmates – male and female – in for a variety of crimes, from drug-dealing and prostitution to murder.

Who are the guards? Are they real?

Everything about the show and the programme is entirely real.

The staff at Brevard County Jail who will be participating in the show include corporals Pam Hobbs and Nicole Contos, Lieutenant Robbie Stokes and Sergent Michael Ingram.

But the overseer of the programme will be Sheriff Wayne Ivey. The motto he carries with him throughout is “we need to get these kids before they get to us”.
