Celebrity Traitors’ first victim Amol opens up about ‘unhappy contrast’ as he grieves his demise

He’s not bitter, but I wouldn’t say he’s a happy bunny

The Celebrity Traitors’ first victim of 2026 was journalist Amol Rajan, and now he’s admitted he’s in a sort of limbo between glee and sadness.

When Richard E. Grant made *that* confession within minutes of being declared a Traitor, it became painfully apparent that season two would play out a little differently. Maya and Richard had to scramble to cover his tracks, which included knocking off the latter’s biggest critics: James Acaster and Amol Rajan. Naturally, they were selected as the potential third Traitors, with Maya and Richard ultimately opting for James. That sealed Amol’s fate, and Claudia unceremoniously slammed his coffin lid closed. Brutal.

That decision left the Traitors as Maya Jama, Richard E. Grant, and the inherently reluctant James Acaster, with Amol becoming this season’s very first murder victim. It was a smart choice, if a little obvious, Professor Hannah Fry argued.

Amol is still grieving his Celebrity Traitors murder

In an interview with Digital Spy over the weekend, Amol Rajan admitted he’s stuck between happy and sad when it comes to his experience on The Celebrity Traitors.

“Honestly, there’s kind of an unhappy contrast right now, because I’m sort of grieving what might have been,” he explained. “In time I know that I’ll come to look on this as honestly one of the greatest privileges of my life. In fact, I already do. What an amazing thing to do, and it was bigger, bolder, braver and brighter than it looks on TV.”

Thinking back to that tense midnight excursion to the chapel, which resulted in his murder, Amol said that it was intense, to say the least.

He explained: “In the chapel, every sensation was turned up to the absolute max. I’d been on this massive rollercoaster of thinking that I was out, then thinking I was reprieved, then thinking, ‘oh wait a second, this could get complicated.'”

Despite his disappointment, he said his brief time on the BBC show was surreal, adding: “I know it’s such an overused word, but it is iconic. To actually be there, taking in that this is a real place, and I’m actually here – well, it’s spine tingling. Then the TV thoughts are put aside and very quickly it’s game time.”

Only time will tell whether Maya and Richard made the right decision. In Friday’s episode, it looked as though the heat was still on Richard and his “I’m a Traitor” blunder.
