We all know Celebrity Traitors’ Hannah Fry is cool, but her stacked background is legit insane
Making maths vibey again
Hannah Fry is part of The Celebrity Traitors cast for 2026, and if the vibrant hair was not a big enough sell, her education is seriously STACKED. Genuinely, I feel dumb just reading about it.
The leaves are turning orange, the pumpkin spice is coming out, and Halloween is right around the corner: It’s cosy season, and Celebrity Traitors is here to comfort us in these cold months.
It’s still too early to predict what chaos is going to occur, but if there’s one person who might have a leg up on the competition, it’s Hannah Fry and her massive brain. Take a look.

Where did Hannah Fry go to university?
In 2006, Hannah Fry graduated from University College London with an MSci in Mathematics with Theoretical Physics. Even that is impressive, but she immediately went on to do a PhD in fluid dynamics, which studies liquids and gases in motion. Her particular specialisation was Navier-Stokes equations; I’m going to pretend I know what that means.
But she didn’t stop there. Putting her hard-earned education to work, she began applying her mathematical knowledge to study social systems like trade, migration and security.
Her job is also super cool
@fryrsquared Just in case you weren’t brought up Catholic (like me) some extra info: Jesus was supposed to be born in the year 0 and crucified in spring time when he was 33 years old. In 2009 NASA published the complete data set of all the eclipses over 5000 years, from 2000BCE – 3000CE. You can go and look at it yourself (https://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/solar.html ) They were made by Fred Espenak and Jean Meeus. Fred Espenak is lovingly referred to on that site as “Mr. Eclipse”. Neither of them set out to find the crucifixion date btw, that was proposed by Colin Humphreys and W.G. Waddington. You can read their Nature paper for their justification: “Dating the Crucifixion”, 1983.
After university, she got to work as a packaging employee at Amazon. Just kidding, she became a professor in the Mathematics of Cities at UCL, becoming a leading voice in the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis.
In January of 2025, she was named as the professor for the Public Understanding of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, becoming the very first person in this role at DAMTP.
But that’s not enough, apparently, because Hannah Fry is also an affiliated researcher and contributor with The Alan Turing Institute. You know, the guy who basically won WW2.
God, even her side quests are cool
When I have free time, TikTok calls, but for Hannah Fry, her extracurricular activities have included hosting many science shows, doing TED Talks, and writing books on topics that go over most of our heads.
One of her bestselling books, The Mathematics of Love, applies maths to – you guessed it – love, from choosing when to settle down to planning wedding seating arrangements.
She’s been praised to the moon and back

To say Hannah Fry is a leading voice in the science world is completely fair, so naturally, she’s been applauded with many an award over the years.
For instance:
- She delivered the 2019 Royal Institution Christmas Lectures, a HUGE honour in the science community
- In 2018, she won the Christopher Zeeman Medal
- She was awarded the 2020 Asimov Prize for science communication
- Became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering
- Became an Honorary Fellow of the Learned Society of Wales
- Won the Royal Society’s David Attenborough Award
- Won an Emmy in 2025
- Won a Webby Award for The Rest Is Science, the podcast she co-hosts with Michael Stevens
- Was named one of the 100 most influential digital creators of 2026 by TIME.
Long story short: Watch your back, celebs; Hannah Fry is not to be trifled with.
