New witness statements reveal heartbreaking details about Liam Payne’s final hours in Argentina

Newly released police files have shed further light on Liam Payne’s final hours, including unseen photographs of the One Direction star taken shortly before his death.

Liam died aged 31 in October 2024 after falling from the third-floor balcony of his hotel suite at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Now, a collection of documents gathered by investigators, including photographs, witness statements and official reports, has been shared, with the new evidence providing further insight into what happened in the hours before his death.

Among the material obtained by the Daily Mail is CCTV footage showing Liam walking through the hotel corridors around an hour before his fatal fall. The image shows him looking drawn and unsteady.

The files also contain a statement from Liam’s father, Geoff Payne, who described the profound change he witnessed in his son while he was struggling.

Speaking to prosecutors, Geoff said Liam “went away” during these periods, adding: “He was not in control with what he did. He was not Liam.”

According to the files, Liam had allegedly damaged his room and had an angry confrontation with hotel staff while staying at the Park Hyatt, where he had been staying with Kate. He subsequently moved to the CasaSur Palermo Hotel.

Police documents reportedly state that Liam began contacting reception asking for drugs and ordering several bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label whisky through room service.

Messages from a hotel staff WhatsApp group, dated October 14, also appear in the files.

Hotel manager Gilda Martin reportedly warned colleagues that Liam could be difficult during his stay, writing: “This person is going to be very intense throughout his stay.”

She continued: “It’s important that we tell him ‘no’, always kindly and with excuses. This is to stop him from continuing to be aggressive. Or at least not so much.”

A member of the reception team responded: “Will do whatever we can as long as he doesn’t get violent.”

The documents also reportedly contain statements from two women who said they met Liam at the hotel after he contacted them online.

According to their accounts, Liam sent photographs of himself in bed and a video confirming his identity after one of the women initially found it difficult to believe she was speaking to the One Direction star.

The women said they arrived at the hotel at around 11.30am, provided identification at reception and were then allowed upstairs to his room.
