Netflix true crime about dark serial killer drops this week and it’s more hideous than any other

Netflix has a new true crime film coming this week, and it focuses around the twisted story of Aileen Wuornos. Aileen was sentenced to death over the murders of seven men, but her case has raised questions since the day it was revealed.

Aileen: Queen of the Serial Killers will be out on October 30th, and gives an insight into the story. It will feature never-before-seen interviews with Aileen herself, to try and get to the bottom of her crimes. Most importantly, why she did it.

Between 1989 and 1990, Aileen Wuornos murdered seven men across central Florida, a killing spree that ultimately landed her on death row. Her story hit the news because she didn’t fit the profile of what people believed a serial killer looked like. Her execution in 2002 marked the end of a tragic and complex life – one that demands reexamination through a modern lens.

Aileen was born in Michigan in 1956. She experienced a rough childhood, marked by abandonment and abuse. After this she made ends meet through sex work, and petty crime. She was later arrested for a series of murders.

All seven men were murdered in a 12-month period, and found dead in the woods. Aileen said she was not born a serial killer, but instead “was so lost, I turned into one”.

The Netflix documentary will finally give her a voice in her own story, offering new insight into what happened, and why.
